( MINGLE - WEEK 3 )
![]() The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors. The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel. And speaking of the motel, it doesn't seem like there's anything out of the ordinary on this lovely Monday morning. How quaint. As a reminder, we are now accepting murder proposals for Week 3! If you're interested in having your character commit a murder this week, be sure to send in your proposal before Tuesday, 9:00 PM EST. Without any murders we can't have a murdergame, so go forth and let the bodies hit the floor! As always, feel free to PM us or send us a PP over plurk if you have any questions! ic rulebook | locations | statuses | room assignments private conversations | ic profiles | graveyard | full navigation |

FRONT DESK
Hibiki Kohaku and Omega's 2x2 photographs now depict them with injuries across their throats, identical to the ones found on their corpses — as well as several bruises in Hibiki's case. Vincent Machen's photo now features him with a gouged out eye, a bloody nose and missing tooth, and injuries across what little is visible of his body. Last but not least, Kamui's photograph is now nearly unrecognizable. He is less of a man and more of a bloodied, grotesque pulp. How nice.
And speaking of things that are nice, a candy bowl has been set down on top of the front desk. Take a look inside to find three incisors caked in dried blood.]

NIGHT TERRORS
The contents read: ]
Another week has begun and because of that, I must inform you of another challenge. This week, your loyalties and alliances will be tested. All it takes is one thought of paranoia to bring doubt. You will face the challenge of trusting others, even if it is a rather odd thing to do in a game of murder, after all. If you're able to ignore the eyes always watching you... perhaps you're not entirely hopeless.
Wash up. Breakfast will be served shortly.
[ And like clockwork, characters will begin to gradually feel more paranoid. Be if a constant fear of others plotting against them or truly feeling as if there are always eyes watching them... characters are forced to deal with heightened paranoia. As the week goes on, their paranoia twists to violent outbursts and defensive snark. They will only stop after someone has been murdered on Friday. ]

MISSING ITEMS:
- Motel: Assorted cleaning supplies, mops and brooms.
- Grocery Store: Two meat cleavers.
- Emergency Clinic: Hydrogen peroxide, all the scalpels have been taken.
DAMAGED ITEMS:
- Gas Station: Backroom's door has been broken by a set of above average feet. How shameful.

[She met Omega here, once. She recalls that the other girl was carrying a bouquet of rather distinct blossoms - and now she's on the hunt for them again, and a few others. It's easier said than done, so... when she hears footsteps, she squashes down her unease and turns to whoever's approaching.]
Excuse me - do you have a few minutes to spare...?
lounge - monday afternoon;
[Later that afternoon finds her in the lounge, carrying an armful of flowers that look as though they've been freshly picked. She asks the faceless bartender for a tall cup filled with water, and once she has it, she sets to arranging the flowers in what she hopes is an aesthetically pleasing way.
Getting kidnapped doesn't leave much time for practicing the art of flower arrangements, okay?
Once she's finished, she clasps her hands together in front of it and closes her eyes.]
...rest in peace, Omega-san.
pool & outdoor dining area - tuesday morning;
[Yukina is taking the cards describing the night terrors as a challenge.
They want her to be paranoid? They want her not to trust people? It would be so easy to just lock herself away in her room until these strange feelings ended, but... that would just be giving in. She wants to believe in people, so she's making sure to spend as much time in public as she can.
Today, she's at one of the tables, with a deck of cards and a few books spread out in front of her. She has a fourth cracked open, and her expression is more than a little perplexed.]
Is this really meant to be read to a child...?

monday morning, closed
hajime ichinose approaches a building. it's burned, but it looms overhead like a challenge. it's burned, but it's still standing. surely, without a doubt... there's something in there. a building still holding together despite it's wounds still has a story to tell, and hajime would wager that there might something to be learned even from it's remains. still, as it stands, this is where she has to be. as a hero, you have to be ready to move. heroes overthink and decide they need to do something about this situation, so they end up in dodgy places in the middle of town.
she's got a team with her, so hajime addresses them both easily. the picture before them is ominous but her tone is relaxed, it's easy and clear. this is what she's got to do. ]
My twooooooo birdies! Are we ready? We had the same idea, so I guess we can't get anymore ready than this, right, right?
DPS comin through
[ he draws near hajime, taking a small step forward to position himself in front of her. these two don't seem like the sort who'd allow themselves to be protected, but still--... ]
Stand behind me, should anything ambush us.
[ haha yeah. why would that ever happen! anyhow, his shoulders are squared as his eyes rove over the burned building. he stands tall to match it.
not the best of feelings, but some things are simply necessary. ]

... of course it's the same as always.
Tuesday afternoon; Botanical Garden
[ For now, it's less exploring and more finding a nice place to read that wasn't his room. He's decidedly brought himself somewhere he believes would be as nice as an atmosphere he would have in the duration of his stay here.
He's sitting nearby the dried up water fountain, since the gazebo wasn't exactly the best place for a reading spot. ]

[Mira is bored as hell. So she's going to just head to the museum and use a black marker to drawing mustaches on all the paintings of people in the museum. She's an adult and no one can stop her.]
Spa + Wellness Center - Wednesday morning
[Wanting to get away from the motel for a while, Mira is going to be at the Spa. Over there she has a new bottle of black nail polish, which is great because her poor nails are practically faded by now. Both fingers and toes need to be refined. No one better have some weird kinks if they see her.]
Diner - Wednesday evening
[Toward the evening, Mira will be in the diner because it's the only place here that plays any music. Quietly, when she thinks she's alone, she'll sway to a gentle melody in peace. But if someone does happen to enter, she'll turn over to them with a small grin.]

[Suzaku has an announcement to make. Well, it's not quite an announcement, because he doesn't really bother trying to get anyone's attention and all in all he's bringing the subject up rather casually. YEAH COME GET ME
psa dave is super dead psa
Um. If I could have everyone's attention! The power went out due to an... altercation in the electrical room upstairs, breaking the fuse box. It's fixed now but... [ DEEP BREATH ] Dave Strider is dead. He went in there using the skeleton key, as the Convict, and was killed by some kind of creature that must have been waiting inside.

[Dirk's voice is loud and calm.]
He can't die. It has to be Just or Heroic. This was stupid. He'll revive.
[Loud and calm and clear, with the edge of someone who can't bear to be anything but. Dirk pushes past everyone and strides upstairs, to the electrical room; he ignores whoever is in there and walks straight over to Dave's body. Nothing else there matters to him. Determined, he kneels down and takes hold of Dave.
And he goes still, seeing him with no shades. He touches his face but they aren't there. His eyes are shut and his shades aren't there. The shades are gone, leaving Dave unmasked and vulnerable and like he didn't want to be. Like Dirk destroyed his chance to be.
Like he's...
And like that, the strings all break under strain. Dirk drops, curls over Dave Strider's body holding onto him. His hands are tight and twisted in the fabric of Dave's shirt, but everything else seems to have lost its strength. His own shades slip off his face and fall across Dave's chest with drops of water. He doesn't say anything at all.
Someone better pry him away from that corpse because otherwise he's staying. There's a gutted monster corpse right there? Make him leave.]

[ So Seto's in front of the electrical room with Kaito, and while the door has been left open a crack, there's still the smell of burnt flesh that's slightly nauseating, evident enough by how Seto is gritting his teeth, forcing himself to not recoil in disgust.
Honestly, he wouldn't have minded searching or investigating the electrical room on his own, but it's... probably safer with at least two people.
Dave Strider was killed when he ventured into the room on his own, right?
And well. Kaito has more reason than any of them to actually want to poke around the electrical room. Seto just wants to mostly out of sheer curiosity about whatever creature inside that could have killed Dave Strider.
A pity. He wasn't too bad to be around.
A quick glance over at Kaito, and Seto kicks the door open fully, grimacing at the burnt smell that hits them in both in the face. ]
WEDNESDAY, MORNING (near the hunting lodge, accidentally on purpose starting a fight club with chie + others)
[ When the paranoia escalates and the violent urges start being apparent, the easiest thing to do is to probably beat the crap out of someone.
Or something.
At this point, he's not picky. He's also lucky that his roommate is also agreeable to sparring with him if need be.
So, come Wednesday morning, anyone who comes across the area near the hunting lodge is going to be treated to the sight of Seto and Chie sparring, Seto in the middle of blocking one of Chie's kicks with his forearm, trading a flurry of light blows before he tries to go in to grab her for a finishing throw, although it's not quite successful when she ends up twisting out of the way.
They both spring back at this time, but since Seto can see whoever is approaching, he's going to call for a halt, cut short the sparring to level a look at whoever it is that's just come up.
It's an unspoken question of what are you doing here? ]

[ if you happen to come outside today, you'll see a cloud of smoke — this might alarm you, depending on who you are, and if you choose to follow the smoke trail you'll come to the dining area near the pool. heather's sitting at a table and drops a white stick, reaching her leg down to step on it a little. seconds later, she's pulling another out and grabbing a match from the table in front of her. in a single practice move, she strikes the match on the table then pulls it close to cup it to the stick in her mouth — a cigarette, clearly.
she blows out a circle and watches it dance in the twilit sky, expression steely and hard to read. she watches as the smoke becomes gauzy and diaphanous until it disappears — right in your face, actually. ]
Whoops. Excuse my smoker's etiquette.
TWO → KITCHEN, WEDNESDAY
[ this week sucked. just like the last week. paranoia was kind of her thing — she was practically raised on it. not only was there that protestant panic common of the east coast, but she had moved so much in her life that she had difficulty understanding other people. this was a flaw she was very conscious of. there's also the fact that she was being stalked for several months recently — it gave a girl anxiety.
she was trying her best to find outlets for this stress, though, so today she's cooking. hajime, quer, and percival were injured, and she almost felt like she should do what she could to allay that.
naturally, she's making soup. the smell of broccoli and cheddar permeates the air near the kitchen. want some soup? ]

[the day has finally come. reckoning is upon us. the sins of man have at last caught up to us fallible wretches.
by which i mean, the faceless men have given up on doing L'Arachel's laundry for her and she's out of clean clothes so she has to do an entire chore herself. unfathomable.
this definitely isn't a lady who's used to doing this kind of thing for herself though, and also her roommates probably have to explain running water to her like three times a week, which is why anyone walking into the laundry room around now is going to find the floor utterly soaked in soapy water, and L'Arachel standing in the middle of the room, staring uncertainly down at a sink half-full of clothes and tutting, only refocusing at someone else's entrance.]
It seems someone's made a mess of this place.
[oh
my god]
wednesday morning, botanical gardens
[Just around the overgrown gazebo, passersby might hear a fierce-sounding—] Hah! Take that! And that and that! [—and the occasional thudding sound. This could almost be mistaken for a fight except that anyone who investigates is just going to find L'Arachel...swinging a broom at nothing. Sometimes hitting the side of the gazebo and starting because she totally didn't mean to.
Please don't sneak up on her, because she's taking really wide swings and absolutely not paying attention to anything around her and she will hit you in the face if you aren't careful.]
wednesday afternoon, hunting lodge
[Apparently having decided she's, like, so-so on the broom idea at best, L'Arachel has migrated to the hunting lodge, where she has taken down one of the longer hunting rifles and...is swinging it around like a bat. Is. Is this safe. It's unloaded but is this okay.]
Take that and that and—! [and then she just smacks a vase clear off a table behind her because she didn't just go the fuck outside to do this, or pay any attention to her surroundings at all]

Yesterday morning, Hajime, Quer and I ventured into the burned building most central to the town. In there, we encountered monsters; large insects that spewed fire.
[ he holds out his arms, and then gestures to hajime and quer. ]
What they're capable of should be evident enough.
We discovered more than that, however. The building itself seemed to have once housed children, and it led to a destroyed cathedral of some sort. It's as though there had been a civilization...compromised of creatures like Craftly.
[ percival looks towards quer, and then hajime. ]
We brought something back for you to see. Any bit of information helps if we intend of figuring out what exactly's happening to us.

Sooo... like, um, Innsmouth? Or rather, I mean— see there's a movie, Dagon, but it's based on The Shadow Over Innsmouth, a short story apparently. [Jake has not actually read Lovecraft but he's seen a couple of movies?] The townsfolk in the story took to sacrifices and worship of vile fish beasts in exchange for riches and prosperity. But uh, it didn't go that well.

[ percival has continued his tradition of establishing memorials for the victims. he can be found in front of rooms 104, 112 (embellishing and contributing a few more flowers in honor of their most recent death), 114 but not 107 because that guy had it coming.
speak to him, if you will. ]
❥ thursday; lounge
[ percival appears to be entrenched in his own thoughts. his pen marches across the page of his journal -- his movements are unwavering. suddenly he sighs, the book now shutting.
a piece of paper falls out. ]
Dear Captain,
I can only hope that you've been faring well. I've been told that time has yet to pass back home, but you make it difficult not to worry.
You [ ... (it's scribbled out ] If you were here, you'd be giving me one of those pep talks of yours, wouldn't you? I can hear your voice. Even in these circumstances, you manage to make me smile. I've forgotten what it's like to not be at your side.
[ ... ] Perhaps this all would be well and solved if you were here, but I can't help but be grateful that you aren't. Still, you have the ability to bring people together regardless of the challenge at hand. I've always admired that about you.
I [...]
Yours,

[ oh no. someone actually saw that. his cheeks have begun to redden, and he yanks the paper out of the poor spectator's hands. ]
Oi! That's not yours!

Thanks. [ For making the memorials. She wouldn't have thought to on her own, and only went out to get flowers because she'd seen what he made. She sort of. Lifts the flowers she brought. ] Do you mind if I...?

[Jake is flopped over on the sofa, bored and stircrazy and tired and generally fed up with this whole thing. And apparently watching the TV playing static? That's where he's looking anyway.]
What type of show do you think this would play anyhoo?
[Wednesday | Diner]
[Understandably, Jake hasn't ventured far beyond the motel. It takes too much effort to get far and he's still tired, still in pain even with his medication. But he hates the quiet. He's used to having movies going almost all the time and the TVs at the motel don't work, so he's ventured back to the diner to enjoy some music. The song playing is, well, it's catchy at least even if it's a little odd.
He has a pad of paper and a pen out, kicking his intact leg back and forth as he studies whatever he's written down. When he notices you, he'll welcome you over.]
Do you want to ponder a mystery with me?
[Wildcard]
[Monday he'll be in his room most of the day though anyone is welcome to visit! Thursday he'll be spending almost the whole time with Dirk on the buddy system to uh. Not die. But you can hit me upon
Diner
Of course. What do you have there?
