SURVIVORS: 36 The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors. The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel. And speaking of the motel, it doesn't seem like there's anything out of the ordinary on this lovely Monday morning. How quaint. As a reminder, we are now accepting murder proposals for Week 3! If you're interested in having your character commit a murder this week, be sure to send in your proposal before Tuesday, 9:00 PM EST. Dave gave me a scalpel in case I need it. In case someone mean tries to hurt me. But it's sharp, and... I don't have anywhere to put it.

Dave said you knew how to make something to put it in. He said you knew how to sew better than he did.

[splinten]

[Of course.] I can sew a hidden pocket into your clothin'. I'll need a bit of scrap. That... shouldn't be an issue. [He has all his roommates' old clothing, after all.] I can do that whenever you want.

Okay. That will help.

[After a moment, she climbs back to her feet slowly and holds out her hands to Dirk.] We can after we make the dessert with the apples. Then we can eat it while you make it. I think Dave would be mad if it went to waste.

Will you help me on the counter?

[splinten]

I agree.

[He hoists Emily up, no problemo.] Good there?

Yes. [Sitting on the counter will let her help better with the apples.] Are you trying to make a pie?

[splinten]

Yes. Velvet taught me how so I could make apple pie for Dave.

[empireofrats]

Okay. I don't really know how to make a pie. But I can help. What do we do first?

[splinten]

We need the flour, salt, sugar, and butter. We start with the flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl together. Then we have to blend the butter in.

[He demonstrates this? Velvet taught him well. Thank god he has Strong Muscles from Swordfighting for mixing in the butter tbh.]

[empireofrats]

[Thank God that Dirk has Strong Muscles also because Emily sure as hell wouldn't be able to stir in the butter. Noodley arms are a go.] Okay. Wait--!

I think the sugar should go on top. [So she helps him with that instead; flour first, then the salt, and then the sugar.] Because it's sweet and it's on the outside. So you can taste it better.

Okay, now you can put in the butter.

[splinten]

[He pauses, attending to the reasoning and nodding.]

That's pretty solid reasonin, but we're actually gonna mix this shit up. If we want to do a sugary part on the outside, we have to do a glaze.

[Which Dirk is down for? Not that he super knows how to but. Dirk is a big believer in not lying to children, because that's stupid, but definitely encourage everyone along whatever path they find interesting. Which apparently means sugar on the outside.

Anyway he gets to churning it all together with his Strong Muscles.]

[Surprisingly, Emily bursts into quiet giggling.] No, silly. Not on the outside of the pie. The sugar. It should go on the outside of the other things.

Like what we did. [She lets him Muscle the ingredients together, finding it fascinating how it turns more solid and gooey and sticks to his fingers.] The flour first, the salt, and then the sugar on top. So it's on the outside. [Of the ingredients.]

[splinten]

So is that, like, the conceptual exterior?

[He is just following this reasoning along at this point with interest.]

What's a "conceptual exterior"?

It isn't literally the outside of the thing. Instead, it's the outside of the idea of the thing.
