( MINGLE - WEEK 3 )

SURVIVORS: 36 The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors. The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel. And speaking of the motel, it doesn't seem like there's anything out of the ordinary on this lovely Monday morning. How quaint. As a reminder, we are now accepting murder proposals for Week 3! If you're interested in having your character commit a murder this week, be sure to send in your proposal before Tuesday, 9:00 PM EST. Monday - Lobby

[With her requested notebook and crayons, Emily is sitting on the floor in the lobby with the company of the faceless clerk, drawing on the coffee table. With no one bothering her, she's quiet and focused.

But if she sees anyone go for the "candy bowl," she'll say without looking up:] It's teeth.

Thursday - Kitchen

[If you come into the kitchen during the right moment, you'll see a little girl scurrying inside one of the cabinets near the floor, and the door will quickly shut behind her. The floor in front of the cabinet is littered with a few kitchen odds and ends.

Unfortunately, there's some unavoidable rustling in the cabinet that signals she's inside, but after a few seconds, the door cracks open and her face appears.]

[ninjay]

I wonder who they belong to.

[ he doesn't move from the spot near the bowl though, just staring at them. ]

[empireofrats]

[The curiosity makes her look up finally, pausing in the drawing. Her mouth is pulled in a gently pensive line.] Someone missing teeth.

They look like people teeth. But... they look like front teeth. These two. [She points at her own incisors.] But there's three.

[ninjay]

Last I checked, all of us have our teeth.

[ he frowns. ]

Unless this is meant to be another cryptic message, like last week.

[empireofrats]

That someone is going to lose their teeth? [Hm.] Or maybe... it's eating. People eat with teeth. And... if you don't have teeth, then you can't eat.

[ninjay]

Maybe someone's going to poison the food supply then.

[ he doesn't actually think someone is going to do that. ]

[empireofrats]

Sometimes, old people sound funny when they don't have any teeth. Maybe not having teeth will make it harder for someone to talk.

Kitchen

[Normally Apollo wouldn't be startled about Emily hiding in a cabinet, but this is paranoia week, and by Thursday that's real bad. When the door cracks open, Apollo jumps and pretty much braces himself for any surprise attack that may come now. When he sees who it is...well he doesn't calm down immediately]

What are you doing in there?!

[empireofrats]

[After a pause, the door opens a bit more, and Emily's face emerges more fully.] I'm hiding from the monsters.

The ones in the Dark Room.

[vitamin_a]

They're trying to leave the Dark Room?!

[He actually seems horrified about that. Okay, maybe Emily is exaggerating! Things can be this bad, right?]

What do you mean? Have you see any around here?

[empireofrats]

Maybe. [She peers at Apollo, blinking slowly. Her face doesn't really register any kind of emotion in particular, though she doesn't seem scared.] I've seen them under the door. At the bottom.

They have hands like the Innkeeper, and they stick them under it to the outside.

[vitamin_a]

[Well that's horrible. Apollo takes a deep breath, calming down. So there are tentacled things in the Dark Room...well it was obvious there was something in there]

Well, don't worry. Those things won't get out. You don't have to hide, everything will be okay.

[He hopes. He has no idea how those things behave, but he hopes it won't turn out to be as awful as he's imagining it to be]

[empireofrats]

[Again, she looks out at Apollo for a long moment, thinking.]

Maybe we should go inside instead. We can lock the door. Even if we turn into ghosts, it'll be okay.

There's monsters already out here.

kitchen

[curedham]

[well hey there. L'Arachel ever so slowly crouches down next to the cabinet as Emily peeks out of it.]

And here I almost thought there were vermin I was being made to mind, but it is only you.

[empireofrats]

[Ah yes, the nice lady who helped her when... what happened to Hana happened. She smiles just slightly.] No rats.

I'm hiding.

[curedham]

Hiding? [Her expression knits together in slight concern; her instinct is to dismiss it as child's play but around here, who even knows anymore.] Whatever from?

[empireofrats]

The Dark Room.

[curedham]

Is that so? And why is that?

[empireofrats]

There's monsters in the Dark Room. They're trying to get out.

[ why is this always the way of things why are people always trying to trick her into eating these sorts of things-- ] Thanks for the warning.

... What're you drawing?

[empireofrats]

[At least the teeth are blatantly teeth and not, like... stuck inside any other foods...]

Jay says we all have our teeth. So we don't know why they're there.

[After another few strokes, she pauses and lifts up the notebook. There's two indiscriminate people in the center of the page; one, horrified and panicked but stuck by the wrapping tendrils coming from the second figure; two, someone partially like Crafty with tentacles for arms and feet, using a plier to remove the teeth of the first person.] The person who lost their teeth.

[willremember]

Well... I guess it's good that they aren't any of ours.

[ She looks over the drawing, apparently unperturbed by its content. Nothing wrong with drawing what's on your mind! ]

Nice. [ Complete sincerity. ] You think Craftly took them?

[empireofrats]

I don't know. [She's glad Clementine is okay with the drawing. It wasn't meant to be as disturbing as it seemed.] Maybe he didn't take them. Maybe he found them instead.

[willremember]

That's almost worse - then someone was just losing teeth left and right.

They're front teeth. They look like this. [She points at her own.] But there's three of them...
