( MINGLE - WEEK 3 )

SURVIVORS: 36 The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors. The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel. And speaking of the motel, it doesn't seem like there's anything out of the ordinary on this lovely Monday morning. How quaint. As a reminder, we are now accepting murder proposals for Week 3! Yeah, I think so. [ it is a distant memory ]

... But I don't think I watched a lot of tv, even then.

I've always watched movies. Um, when I was younger, and I couldn't fight the monsters, I just holed up doing that all the time.

That sounds like it sucked.

[potentite]

It sucked a huge dick. But it got better as I grew up and could actually fight. But it sounds like you've been fighting for a while. I was thirteen when I started to really try.

[willremember]

Were you by yourself? It's hard to learn if you don't have someone to guide you. [ she doesn't quite understand his circumstances, but if she had just 'started to try' on her own out in her world, she'd have been dead. ]

[potentite]

My grandma lived with me for a time but she was killed when I was five, so I was left to fend for myself unfortunately.

How did you survive...? Even if you stayed safe... [ like what. did you eat... ]

[potentite]

My room was up in a tower and my grandma grew all sorts of fruits and vegetables around us. And there was a lagoon with fish a short walk away if I felt like it. It was still dangerous and I wound up injured or barely escaping by the hair of my chin more than a few times but I managed.

Sounds nice.

Not the - barely surviving part. Not the monsters. But... The fish and fruits and vegetables. I wish there were more places like that where I'm from.

[He understands honestly. Dirk lived off doritos??] Are there any orchards left? Or farmland that might have overgrown and thrived?

If there is, someone has already taken it.

Ah. Things are that divvied up?

[willremember]

Everyone is looking for the same thing. And you don't get to lead big groups without being a certain kind of a person. [ a bad one ]

[potentite]

Ah, that's... sad, really. If people could work together, there really wouldn't be a need for... uncouth behaviour I think.

I don't know... It's complicated.

You try to provide food for the people you care about, but when things are the way they are... That circle can't be too big. I'm not saying I totally get it, but...

[potentite]

You would know better than me! I never had to compete with anyone for resources. But it does make... a certain amount of sense. It's always easier for people to care about someone they know versus a stranger, after all.

Right. So it's not totally wrong for people to just be looking out for themselves, but...

Ugh. [ It's!! complicated!! ]

[potentite]

Do you... have a group back home?

[willremember]

I've seen too many fall apart.

I was with Javi's people, but only because I needed something from him.

[potentite]

So you don't stay with any too long anymore? [That makes him sad but... he understands. It's hard, getting attached to people like that.] Erm, sorry if that's personal.

[willremember]

[ she nods. ] Just me and AJ. It's better that way.

I don't mind talking about it. [ probably? she just doesn't think it's anything that can be used against her so who cares about personal boundaries, ha ]

Oh! AJ, huh? Someone you can count on?

No, not really. He's two. [ ish. ]
