SURVIVORS: 36 The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors. The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel. And speaking of the motel, it doesn't seem like there's anything out of the ordinary on this lovely Monday morning. How quaint. As a reminder, we are now accepting murder proposals for Week 3! If you're interested in having your character commit a murder this week, be sure to send in your proposal before Tuesday, 9:00 PM EST. [It isn't grating, but it is difficult to take. Rather, he doesn't know how to take it. How to accept or understand it. The sunglasses drip pool water as he stares at her, his mouth a closed line, his face expressionless.]

I'm sorry.

[He should be able to take the comfort. He should be better. He should be able to answer a kind woman with kindness. But he doesn't know how.

He slips back underneath the surface of the water. There, it makes sense that he can't seem to breathe.]

You don't-

[But he's submerged into the water again before she can get the words out in full.]

...have anything to apologize for...

[She watches, with no small amount of anxiety, as he stays below the surface, as the minutes tick by. He'll come up for air, won't he? When he needs to. ...but what if he doesn't? What if he's trying to-?

When the six minute mark passes, Yukina takes a deep breath, removes her sandals and socks, and slides into the pool to try and help him get out.]

[splinten]

[He feels the motion in the water, shifts by habit made from being attacked by sea creatures his whole life—realizes, his eyes widening. Instantly, he kicks off the pool bottom to swim up, to bring Yukina with him if he can.]

Woah. Woah, sorry, I'm okay. I'm sorry. I'm okay.

[thawedheart]

[When they break the surface, Yukina gasps for air - she's not as used to swimming as he is, has never made much of an effort to work on holding her breath for long periods of time. She grabs for the side of the pool to hold herself up and frowns a little at how heavy her robes now feel.

Maybe this was not the best clothing to wear while swimming, but...]

It's not - your fault. I... jumped to conclusions. [She ducks her head.] ...sorry. I'm glad you're okay.

[splinten]

Can't exactly blame you for that. [You know. Being depressed. Staying under water for ages. All that.] It ain't like that. For one thing, drownin' in chlorine water would just piss me off.

[It's a stupid reason but

He slips out of the water and offers her a hand to help her up? He knows that heavy clothing becomes murderous when it's wet.]

[Piss him off, huh?

Yukina stares at his hand for a moment before taking it, accepting his help getting out of the pool and then making a slight face as she starts to wring out her sleeves.]

I think dying at all... should, um. Do that.

[She can't quite bring herself to say "piss you off," but it's what she means.]

It probably should. [AND YET.] Does it piss off you?

...that might be a strong way of phrasing it... but, yes. I don't like the idea of dying in a place like this.

[Or at all, really.]

[splinten]

So you'd be cool if we just changed the scenery for our deaths.

[He assumes it is an 'at all' situation in fact.]

[thawedheart]

...everyone dies sometime. But I don't think this time and place is where any of us are meant to die.

[Different scenery, different time, basically.]

[splinten]

If you believe Craftly, in a way, it isn't where any of us die. We just get temporarily not in this world for a while before going back to ours.

[Not that even Dirk's monotonous voice sounds okay with that. To him, it's still bad and wrong.]

It's still bad enough. Even if that is the case... it's not something anyone should have to experience.

[Not any of the people who are still alive.

And not Dave, either.]

[splinten]

It depends on how it happens. [Calmly.] Quick deaths aren't that bad.

[Decapitation and being exploded were both fine.]
