( MINGLE - WEEK 5 )
![]() The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors. The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel. And speaking of the motel, it seems like the Kitchen, Dining Hall and Disposal room are still under constructions. Meals will be served in the Pool/Outdoor Dining Area in the meantime. How quaint. As a reminder, we are now accepting murder proposals for Week 5! If you're interested in having your character commit a murder this week, be sure to send in your proposal before Tuesday, 9:00 PM EST. Without any murders we can't have a murdergame, so go forth and let the bodies hit the floor! As always, feel free to PM us or send us a PP over plurk if you have any questions! ic rulebook | locations | statuses | room assignments private conversations | ic profiles | graveyard | full navigation |

[They spent way too much time here over the weekend, but when it comes down to it... she doesn't know where else to go.
Was it really only a week ago that she'd been here with Ryou? They'd chatted, they'd laughed, they'd played cards together. He'd been so excited to get his deck back and teach her more about the game... now all that's left is an empty chair in front of her and her own bootlegged Pokemon cards, which they'd attempted to turn into Duel Monsters cards by scribbling in ATK and DEF points.
...it's not the same. It's really not the same, and her expression is glum as she looks through the cards in her own deck.]
Ryou-san... I'm sorry. [She knows he probably can't hear her. But the dead have been reacting to things, haven't they? So... maybe. It's a slim, fragile hope, and since she doesn't know who the Medium is, this is the best she can do.] ...I'm sorry I wasn't able to do more for you.
library - tuesday;
[She's rallied, a little. Or, at least, she's trying to distract herself. Yukina's not sure that she can ever forgive herself for taking a life, but she wants to do what she can to protect others while she's here - and that means she has to find something productive to do with her time.
Apparently, that means reading. It's unlikely that she'll find anything especially useful, but knowledge is power, and so she's gathered a variety of books on various topics to pore over.
Right now? She's intently reading one on medicine. ...unfortunately, they don't have access to most of the supplies that are described. From time to time, she seems to hear something, looks up and to the left -
And then flinches, returning her attention to the book.]
laundry room - wednesday;
[It's baffling to her that, even amidst... everything, that they still need to worry about laundry. But, they do. So she can be found here quietly working on laundry, though occasionally she scrubs a little bit too hard, as if she's trying to focus on anything but whatever she seems to be hearing or seeing.
Some of the water sloshes out from the tub she's working with, and she gasps as she realizes she might have splashed someone.]
Ah! I'm sorry...
library again - thursday;
[You can only run so far from your own demons before they catch up with you. But Yukina is trying, frantically ducking past the shelves, glancing back over her shoulder periodically with terror before she finally decides to focus on only looking straight ahead.]
—stop it! Stop it! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!
[She hears footsteps, and she's not sure anymore if it's someone who's actually there, or if it's all a product of her own mind. Or if it's real, even if it is a product of her own mind. She can't bring herself to look. Eventually, she has the misfortune to trip, and instead of picking herself back up, she puts her hands over her face to keep from being tempted to look at whoever or whatever is approaching.]
I'm sorry I couldn't save anyone. I can't save anyone...
anywhere - anytime;
[Wildcard option! You know the drill, come at me with anything if none of the above works or hit me up at
thursday!
Tsurugi does look a bit off his game though! You know, not as chipper as he usually does, his actions aren't as energetic as they usually are, but he does notice Yukina as she just. . . Trips.
Oh gee. ]
Yuki-chan.
[ He'll approach her closer after saying that. ]
It's just me.
no subject
—no!
[Apparently, she's... not too happy... to see him... sorry Tsurugi.
This would be the part where she would apologize, if she wasn't busy trying to scramble back up to her feet now.]
no subject
Ow- oww... Yuki-chan! You're being so rough, please.
[ rubs his forehead. geez! ]
Are you done throwing things at me yet?
no subject
Instead, she holds it up between the two of them, as if it's a shield. (Not that a book on arts and crafts, with a little macaroni-art octopus on the cover, is much of one.)]
Why are you... why are you here? Did you follow me?
no subject
You were screaming, it's kind of hard to ignore that.
[ Like, seriously Yukina. Snap out of it for like two seconds. ]
Seeing some bad things, are you?
no subject
...aren't you?
[She shoots him a slightly disgruntled look.]
You aren't the Psychologist. You should be, too.
no subject
Do you think I am?
[ ~mysterious~ ]
no subject
I think... you're doing a good job of pretending you're not.
library - tuesday;
He counts it lucky that they're not so bad now (though bad enough in the end.) But...he has to be strong. It's hard, but he can manage.
Knoll puts down the book he was writing on, and stands up. When he does, he notices Yukina and draws over to her. ]
...Are you looking for answers as well?
no subject
[Yukina nods slowly, but manages to keep from pulling away when he draws closer. It's... fine, isn't it? He's choosing to speak with her, even knowing what she did.
(But what if it's not genuine? What if she's been manipulating him, somehow, like Heather had said-
She forces herself to stop wondering that, and looks up.)]
Or... looking to learn more useful skills. [She sighs.] But looking through books will only do so much...
no subject
What kind of skills are you looking to learn? Perhaps I could help you.
no subject
[Or, maybe not. They've had an unfortunate tendency not to find anyone until it was too late to do anything for them.]
Either that or... I'd like to get better at figuring things out. If there are stories about solving mysteries, maybe I'd improve by reading them... I don't know.
no subject
[ Knoll doesn't think they'll ever find someone in time to help them if they've been targeted by a killer. It just doesn't happen. But still, he knows it could be useful for when someone does something stupid here and gets injured...
He'll begin to look over at the nearby bookcase while waiting for her answer, hoping that he could find a mystery story for her. ]
It all depends on which of the two you would like to start with first. But, I could help with the second subject as well.
[ He was a researcher; he's had experience in solving mysteries. ]
no subject
Hmm...
[She weighs her options. As much as she aches to be able to treat everyone's injuries, she has to admit... a propensity for solving mysteries would be better here.]
...the second would be more immediately useful, I think.
no subject
[ He looks through the book section some more and he finds that he's unable to locate what he desires. Knoll's voice sounds more sure, and more methodical as he speaks. ]
I'll give you a few tips--some of them may seem obvious--though you don't have to take them all to heart.
Sometimes the most obvious solution is the answer. When something seems to be a coincidence, it's likely not to be one. This is especially so when an recurring element is involved. If something or someone seems suspect--you should question them or it. Don't take anything at face value. Always re-examine something someone has said or brought forth for you to look over.
If you feel as if you are being deliberately lead away from the right answer, you probably are.
[ Knoll begins to look at another book-case. ]

tuesday;
He's but a few feet away from her when he speaks up.]
...What are you reading, Yukina-chan?
no subject
[Being approached surprises her a little, if only because she had been expected avoidance on the part of others who don't have blood on their hands. (Of course, not knowing about the blood that's on his hands from his own world contributes to that - she wouldn't be nearly as surprised, if she knew about Kira.)]
Um... this. [She picks up the book and tilts it so he can see the cover - it's a medical textbook, outdated by his modern standards.] I thought maybe it might be useful, if anyone else got injured this week, but...
[Lack of supplies is a problem.]
no subject
Ah, medicine? [As in, a medical textbook. He actually huffs out a soft laugh, deciding to move just adjacent of her.]
It doesn't surprise me you're reading up on something like that. Even if it's a little out of our scope right now, you're always looking for ways to help people.
no subject
[She looks down at the book, her expression a little glum.]
Although... I can't say I've been very good at it. [She's been spectacularly bad at it, actually. Instead of protecting the people here, she killed Ryou.] As long as everyone ends up safe in the end, though... it should... be okay, right?
no subject
Tell me, at least, that you're doing a little reading for fun. You can't be working yourself to the bone the entire time, you know.
no subject
[The way she repeats that, like it's a question, is probably indication enough that she's, uh. Not.]
I can't. There's... no time to relax. [That's right, she hears in the back of her mind, though it feels like it's being screamed at her from a few feet away. She starts to glance to the side, but forces herself to stop and look back down at the book instead.] ...I have to figure out how to help people. I don't want to keep failing.
no subject
However, at this point in the week? He knows exactly what it is that's ailing her. Light isn't surprised, and there's only so much he can do -- distract, maybe. Escapism can do wonders for an addled mind, though he never indulges in it himself. (No need, anyway. The voices that screech at him in turn? Easy to ignore.)]
There is time to relax. You're doing your mind a disservice by pushing it too far.
[He's just going to look over to scan the shelves around them.]
What's your favorite genre?

thursday
[Mabel holds up her arms and then stumbles towards her]
Snap out of it!

Mabel-chan...?
