SURVIVORS: ?? The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors. The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel. And speaking of the motel, it seems like the Kitchen, Dining Hall and Disposal room are still under constructions. Meals will be served in the Pool/Outdoor Dining Area in the meantime. How quaint. As a reminder, we are now accepting murder proposals for Week 5! If you're interested in having your character commit a murder this week, be sure to send in your proposal before Tuesday, 9:00 PM EST. FRONT DESK

[Come Monday morning, anyone who happens to stop by the front desk will notice something on the bulletin board has... changed. And not for the better.

Ryou Bakura is the tamest of them all, his picture only featuring the injuries he possessed after his disappearance. L'arachel, similarly, only features splatters of blood on what little is seen on her body. The other pictures are not quite as tame. Apollo Justice is discolored, with a stab wound plainly visible on his neck. Seto Kaiba's head has been bashed in, the bullet wound on his shoulder featured in the shot. Aloy is, naturally, less of a person and more a mangled heap of flesh and bones after her little incident in the kitchen. Finally, Suzaku's eyes are dribbling out of their sockets, electrical burns all over his flesh and puncture wounds where the needles impaled him.

As per usual, there is a ceramic bowl on top of the front desk. Anyone who inspects it will find a pair of brown eyes inside, little bits of flesh sticking to them. Nice.]

NIGHT TERRORS

[ Promptly at 7:00 AM on Monday morning, each resident will awaken as if their consciousness was not under their own control. No matter how well you slept or how snug you are in your bed, your eyes snap awake and your body feels full of energy. If you and your roommate glance to the front door of your room, you'll find a silver platter. Upon further inspection, there seems to be a folded envelope.

The contents read: ]

Dear residents,

Another week has begun and because of that, I must inform you of another challenge. This week you will see visions of those you hold dear. They will be injured, maimed and perhaps even killed. Though no one else will share these visions with you, in your heart you know them to be true. Your loved ones are in great peril. Surely, they will perish without your aid... But do not fret: we have a proposition for you. Give us a death this week, and secure their lives for eternity.

Wash up. Breakfast will be served by the pool.

[ And like clockwork, characters will begin to gradually develop vivid hallucinations. They will see their loved ones get maimed or murdered by an unidentifiable assailant. As the week progresses, the hallucinations will become worse. One possible evolution of the night terror is seeing the face of one of their fellow survivors on the assailant. Another possibility is having the mangled corpses of their loved ones follow them around, whispering in their ear how they failed to save them. In all cases, the hallucinations will become more explicit and gruesome by the end of the week. And for those who have no loved ones in their canon, you're free to play around with who the character will see get injured/killed. The night terrors will only stop after someone has been murdered on Friday. ]

BULLETIN BOARD

[On Monday morning, residents will find a new addition to the bulletin board behind the front desk. Someone has tacked a handwritten note to the bottom of the board, below the profiles. Any attempts to match the handwriting to one of the current survivors will result in failure.]

It's the fifth week. Getting comfortable yet? Too bad, because it's way more comfortable over here.

But I wouldn't mind the company. Let's see how many of you will join me this week, seeing as how your Hunters are too pathetic to save you.

[The message is signed with a familiar symbol.]

LOBBY

[On Monday morning, someone has released a pack of small, grotesque frog-like creatures in the Lobby. They seem to be screaming in unison, jumping back and forth and dribbling slime everywhere they touch — including the furniture, walls, floor and even the residents themselves.

Someone should probably, uh, get rid of them.]

[empireofrats]

[The pool net Emily retrieved doesn't have enough concave to it for capturing the frogs... but it works as a decent corral, and she's trying her best to get them to hop on so she can pick them up.

And, uh, get them out of the lobby.

But when they get hopped to the wall and cornered, instead of hopping on the net, they hop in another direction while screaming furiously. Feelsbadman.]

[...this looks a lot easier said than done.

But maybe with teamwork they can get this taken care of. The noise of the frogs' screaming snaps her out of her melancholy, and seeing Emily try and take care of it on her own...

She's been so foolish. If a child can help, why can't she?]

Emily-chan, let's work together! [Case in point: When Emily corners the next frog, Yukina will surge forward to try and tackle it before it can hop away. It's going to get her clothing all slimy, but... that's what the laundry room is for.]

[ wow, what's with these gentle tactics. percival here is both fucking tired and frustrated, and while he cares for animals rather deeply, these things are probably Cthulhu spawn.

so he's going to attempt to reach out and forcefully grab at a few, disregarding the slime and screaming and toss them into the net. he is not above crushing them with his bare hands. ]

Okay! [She has to raise her voice just a bit to get it over the sound of the yelling frogs. Why are they yelling? Why can the frogs yell and it's okay, but none of them can yell without it being seen as Hysteria(TM).]

Be careful! They are really icky! [She doesn't have the best motor skills being ten, but she tries to balance the net until there's a frog or two, and then she tries to rush to the door to toss them out.

The sound of her own light squeals of disgust mingle with the frog's screams.]

ADDENDUM - TWO HOURS LATER

[And, like last week, there's another note tacked to the bottom of the original.]

You're dead, Mira. Haven't you ever heard of resting in peace? The noose around your necks may be tightening faster than you think.

Maybe when we rescue the dead we'll leave you behind, since you like it so much.

[The handwriting is, again, unfamiliar.]

[This is. So gross.

Some of the goo gets on her clothing, but that's fine; her kimono is made of thick material. Likewise, some of it gets on her skin - or would, if her arms and cheeks weren't bandaged. Her hair is the real casualty here.

...even if they get outside, where will they go? Maybe they'll just hop their way back into the lake. She hopes, anyway.

Regardless, she'll keep at it.]

You can say that aga- [And a bit of slime nearly gets in her mouth. She avoids it, but it's a close thing, and she makes a face as she hurls a frog outside with her meager strength.]

They were overnight residents, it seems. [ his voice is uncharacteristically soft, likely because emily is in his presence. despite his frustration, he seems to have no intention of hurting the frogs himself. huh.

anyhow, percival is agile enough to grasp at a few others, promptly tossing them into the pool net. ] Try to keep your mouth closed when they're within a close range. [ the slime has stained the majority of this shirt at this point, but well...laundry day can be rescheduled. ]

I wonder where they came from. The only aquatic ecosystem present in this town would be the lake... [ he holds one firmly in his grasp, and it screams at him as their gazes lock. percival tilts his head. ] But how?

[It's a morbid curiosity more than anything else that brings her back to the ceramic bowl this week. After the last couple of weeks? She knows she won't like what she finds there.

This time, she knows to steady herself before she looks.

...a pair of eyes?

A single... pair of eyes? But there had been three sets of body parts, last week and the week before. Looking troubled, Yukina backs away.]

[Uh, Yukina.]

Maybe you should stop checking?

[Girge's voice startles her quite obviously - she nearly jumps, but manages to keep her cool at the last moment, and shakes her head.]

...if it's some kind of a clue, I have to keep looking no matter how much it disturbs me.

[disinterested]

[Oh, you sweet summer child.]

And what have you inferred from your latest "clue"?

[For a moment, Emily gets distracted at the doorway watching the frogs yell horrendously and hop around just outside. They don't... look like frogs she's ever seen before, but by now, she's not surprised.

Then she returns to Percy and Yukina with the net again, hoisting it out when she isn't trying to help round up frogs.] There's no bowl this time.

The bowl--on the counter. The ones that had the fingers in it. Or the teeth.

But the frogs are here.

Monday afternoon; various places

[ In the afternoon, Knoll spends most of his time near the edge of the city, looking intently out at the fog, and within the City Hall. Though, he can be briefly found other places, outside of the motel.

He's a bit lost in his thought as he meanders, with seemingly little purpose--he's vaguely searching for the children, even though he knows that he should just wait a little longer. Everyone who has gone "missing" outside of murder shenanigans seems to have end up just fine. Mostly. ]

Tuesday; Library

[ Knoll can be found in the library today, sitting on the floor with books surrounding him in a disorderly pile. He's writing something on a piece of paper--he's using a book to make it easier to write on. He doesn't seem to react much if someone were to come closer, and if someone were to peek over his shoulder, they'd be able to see him doodling down just the symbols displayed all around the library. Nothing more, nothing less. ]

Do you know of the author named H.P. Lovecraft--and if you do, would you happen to know if he was a scientist as well?

Wednesday morning; Botanical Garden

[ The dark mage enters into the garden at some point, collecting a few flowers on hand...or perhaps a little more than a few given how many he was holding. However, even though five had recently passed last week as victims, there was easily more than six flowers he's gathered in total.

He seems rather distracted. ]

[It's probably better that Emily thinks that - Yukina would rather not have her have to see the eyes in the bowl. So she won't correct her.

One of the frogs wriggles around in her grasp, straining to jump right at her face - but she's lucky enough to keep her hold on it. Coinflips are being kind to her. For now.]

It can't be the pool... though I wonder if this- [She nods at the gross slime.] ...would have something to do with why it turns to sludge each week. Still, I feel like we'd have had some indication of that sooner, if it were...

So what brought them here from the lake?
