( MINGLE - WEEK 5 )
![]() The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors. The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel. And speaking of the motel, it seems like the Kitchen, Dining Hall and Disposal room are still under constructions. Meals will be served in the Pool/Outdoor Dining Area in the meantime. How quaint. As a reminder, we are now accepting murder proposals for Week 5! If you're interested in having your character commit a murder this week, be sure to send in your proposal before Tuesday, 9:00 PM EST. Without any murders we can't have a murdergame, so go forth and let the bodies hit the floor! As always, feel free to PM us or send us a PP over plurk if you have any questions! ic rulebook | locations | statuses | room assignments private conversations | ic profiles | graveyard | full navigation |

[He is calm and methodical with the treatment. Dirk has been playing around with welding torches since he was a kid; he has more than enough experience with burns. He tries not to hurt her, but he also won't spare her pain if it will mean she's more safe.]
I'd be interested to know how you got these.
[He won't ask who she was seeing. The answer is someone she cares about.]

I'll tell you another time. It - I don't even think it matters.
[ She figures they're all suffering similar hallucinations. And she figures there's not much point in asking who Dirk sees, either. ]

[Of course he has his own visions. So very carefully, he has been focusing on her injuries. It is much easier to tend to these than to think about anything else. He's almost reluctant when he finishes and pulls away.]
Have you eaten anythin' today?

[ When he's finished, she flexes her hand. Which is a terrible idea, because it makes her sort of curl over silently in pain. But she stays that way for a moment longer and has to wait for someone to shut up for a second before she can reply to his question. ]
I ate this morning.

Do you think you could eat? We can probably dig up somethin'.
no subject
I... Yeah. I can eat. [ but she hesitates for a second. ] You don't have to take care of me, you know.

but this week is terrible, so. ]
... I don't want you to die. And everyone - everyone who helps me always dies.

I can't promise I won't die, any more than I can promise that you won't. But I get it. Surviving is one thing, but being the only one to survive when the people you want to survive with don't is...
It happened to me before I came here, and for me, it was worse than dying. Even if it isn't for you, it's a weight that's too much.

[ it's still a comfort that he understands the feeling. even if it's a miserable feeling to share. ]
no subject
It kinda feels like that. You're warned, but you keep falling down those damned stairs.
no subject
I don't get it.
[ this is like falling down an escalator. ]

It's a pretty weird joke, don't worry about it. Dave's sense of humour is fairly unique.

[ she still remembers that the first thing you taught her was loss.jpg SO ]

[He breaks off, glances down to the side. Goes still and shakes his head.]
I can teach you more memes any time.

[ she doesn't want to make that plan with him, too. He's not a Dave replacement, and even aside from that... Dave died right after they made that plan.
Might jinx it. ]
I don't think I really get them, anyway. Even when you explain.
no subject
Sorry, I—I forgot.
[With a swallow, he shakes his head.]

[ as fine as it can be. ]
