( INVESTIGATION - WEEK 5 )

Promptly at 8:00 AM, both of the Grandfather clocks will begin to ring, the sound traveling to every corner of the motel. All residents will wake up as if it was any other morning. There's the usual hum from the air conditioner units and the sound of harsh wind blowing against the windows. While the sun may not have ever set, the amount of times the Grandfather clock rings makes it clear: it's time to get up and greet the brand new day. However... something seems off. Maybe it's a shiver of cold leaving a trail of frost on your skin or a burning sensation in your chest — but it feels like something is drawing you out of your room and into the outdoor hallways. Where will you go? Welcome to the investigation log! Please put the name of the location your character will be exploring in the subject header. [but he doesn't press, just eavesdrops on her conversation with Andersen, a frown tugging down the corners of his mouth]

[Finally sparing him a glance after she's done talking with Andersen]

Is there something you want to say, Kaito?

. . . Percival and Velvet were also found dead in the garden.

[he says evenly]

Do you know if they were there when you killed Quer?

I encountered Quer close to the entrance, where I assume you found her body. If anyone else was there at the time, I didn't see them.

[he nods]

[Oh. Jake will just put his hand on her shoulder.]

Thank you. You know we have pressing matters to attend to later.

I didn't want this to become a distraction from what we're doing. You can all judge me as you see fit afterwards.

[He nods.] Don't worry. We'll sort through this afterwards, we just... need to stay on topic tomorrow.

And for what it's worth, if it was from the night terrors, I'd hardly call it your fault.

That's very kind of you to say. I don't think everyone else will agree on that, though.

[While he can't deny there will certainly be some that may not...] I think, or, well, I hope... that people will be understand. And that, at the very least, they know there is much more at stake that we must sort through first. But at the very least, I refuse to condemn you for it.

You know, if you had said that a week ago, I might protest it, but... after more recent developments, I think many of us are.
