( INVESTIGATION - WEEK 4 )

Promptly at 7:59 AM, all residents will wake up as if it was any other morning. There's the usual hum from the air conditioner units and the sound of harsh wind blowing against the windows. While the sun may not have ever set, there's no reason to doubt it's time to get up and greet the brand new day. Despite the usual cold clinging to the residents' skin, it seems like any other Friday morning. Or, at least, it does — until it suddenly isn't. A large, deafening explosion will rock the motel seconds before 8:00 AM, drowning out the sound of the grandfather clocks and threatening to break the building in half. Those on the motel's west wing will feel the tremors with greater strength, their ears ringing from the volume of the explosion, and just when the walls and ceilings begin to crack... A translucent shimmer coats every room from top to bottom, almost like a shield to keep the structure from falling apart. Now, it's time to see what surprises lay in wait for the survivors. Welcome to the investigation log! Please put the name of the location your character will be exploring in the subject header. [while kaito is sniffing wall smudges like a weirdo, akane is running back in to dump a bunch of sludge water? on the burning corpse???]

[Luckily for them, the sludge is enough to put out the fire!

The corpse is thoroughly burned, but not enough to sear off the flesh. Bits of short, brown hair still cling to the scalp... Or what's left of it, anyway. It seems like the head has been smashed in several time, skull caving in and burned chunks of brain lining the floor. The largest pool of head rests directly underneath that area.

Unfortunately, it's hard to identify who the person might have been like this. Their clothes are charred and their features have been twisted by the flames, but something has survived the fire. The person's wristguards, made out of metal, did not receive enough heat to melt. Though one of them is dented, they're still there.]

[trotting back from the blood trail and smudged bit of lighter fluid]

Akane-- [and the fire is out, thank fuck. he crouches near the body immediately, taking note of its poor condition]

. . . oi. Who here wears wrist guards?

[The fire may be out, but all of this is still bringing back some very unpleasant memories for Akane. She turns away from the body after a cursory look, gagging.]

I think... Kaiba?

[Since she's making an effort to look at everything else EXCEPT the body, is there anything else to find in this fiery wreckage?]

[. . . rests his good hand on her shoulder, sucking in a sharp breath (which results in a cough, because he did breathe in some smoke) when she mentions Kaiba's name]

The blast wasn't what killed him, I don't think.

[he. can't be sure before he gives the body a more thorough examination tomorrow at trial, but. that's his guess]

There's a trail of blood nearby that doesn't quite lead to the body, and some lighter fluid smeared on the wall.

...So they were trying to hide the evidence. I see.

[oh wait she's just remembering what she saw outside]

There's another body outside. Ryou. I didn't get a close look, but I don't think it was the same killer.

But I didn't see any obvious injuries.

[There's nothing left in the wreckage, save the single bullet that's still lodged to the wall.

And speaking of bullets, now that the fire is out and Kaito is crouched next to the body... He will definitely be able to notice this person has been shot in abdomen, shoulder, and heart.

Anyway, they're right. Seto Kaiba is dead.]

[oh hey, you know what he knows a lot about? GUNS]

[because he's a Gosho boy and they know a lot of shit about everything]

[immediately heads towards the bullet in the wall and attempts to remove it to see what kind of bullet it is, if he can]

[He successfully removes it, thank god.

It seems to be the kind of bullet a handgun would use.]

[pockets the bullet, making a note to return to to the faceless men later less they try to mug him for it before the trial]
