( MINGLE - WEEK 4 )

SURVIVORS: 32

The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors.

The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel.

And speaking of the buildings surrounding the motel, it seems like the Library is now open. How quaint.

As a reminder, we are now accepting murder proposals for Week 4! If you're interested in having your character commit a murder this week, be sure to send in your proposal before Tuesday, 9:00 PM EST. Remember that we can't have a murdergame without any murders, so go forth and let the bodies hit the floor.

As always, feel free to PM us or send us a PP over plurk if you have any questions!

[Light waves in the general direction of the seat across from him, indicating for Knoll to sit.]

That sounds fine to me. Actually, there already seem to be a set of rules, maybe we can figure out what they are by looking more closely at the cards themselves. Or... well, maybe it will be more fun to just make something up.

[He slides over some kind of... healer?? card. The art shows a woman whose hands appear to be...glowing, he thinks, with magic. It's hard to tell. This is some real bad art.]

"She will not touch a weapon, but she is the greatest protector her people have known."

[-reading off the flavor text, he scoffs.]

Doesn't look quite as impressive as they'd have us believe.

[ The dark mage carefully seats himself down across from the other man. ]

Then, we may as well see what will work.

[ He picks up a card...it looked like something. An animal of some kind.

He'll put the card, face up. It was supposedly some kind of Sphinx. ]

Well, no. I suppose that may be the fault of whomever was commissioned to draw the art. They should have enlisted the skills of someone who was more talented...

[Light will actually just split the deck in half and offer it to the other man. Have fun going through all this terrible card art.]

It's a joke, really. This place has a twisted sense of humor.

[He puts down another card, shrugging partly. worst dramatic card players ever]

This one looks like... a mage or something. A wizard?

[ Knoll will take it, looking through the tasteless art and putting back a few cards he finds of little interest. ]

That it does...I am reminded of when they saw fit to bring everyone ice cream and such things right after an execution.

[ He's not going to forget, and he hopes no one will either. ]

It does? Is there a description for the card?
godly: (realizations etc.)

[personal profile] godly 2017-06-12 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ice cream that I refused to partake in. The body was... right there. How could anyone have stomached food at the time?

[He frowns at the memory.

Instead, how about focusing on the card? He taps at it.]

It says "Brimstone Mage". I think that's supposed to be fire around his hands.

I don't know. Though, I suppose I can't blame the children at least.

[ He looks at the card, and for a moment he takes pause. His lips slightly twitch upwards. ]

...I believe you're right. Though, I don't believe I have seen many mages from my land with armor. But, it looks less like armor that's been drawn on him and more like pieces of bread.

[ He brings out a card--this time it isn't a character, but seemingly a place, a type of island, with mountains surrounding it. ]

[Light actually chuckles dryly at the "bread" comment. He'd make a joke about toast if he were the type to make... really lame jokes.]

Maybe he's hungry.

[He lifts his gaze up to look at Knoll properly, though, paying more attention to the clothes he's wearing.]

Are mages very common where you're from? We don't have anything like that in my world.
rextenebrae: (o6)

[personal profile] rextenebrae 2017-06-13 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe he is.

[ Knoll would also have made a joke here, but his sense of humor is not the best, even when he's trying to be funny. ]

Mages are indeed common in my world, and it'd be rare to travel to a place on Magvel where there aren't any mages. They usually are adept at one element of magic, such as fire or lightning to name a few.

[Hmm. At the risk of sounding like he's leaning on... stereotypes??, Light asks-]

It sounds like you're fairly knowledgable on the subject. Are you one, yourself?
rextenebrae: (48)

[personal profile] rextenebrae 2017-06-13 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I am. I suppose it was a little obvious, wasn't it?

[ He wouldn't blame him. ]
godly: (you've lost me)

[personal profile] godly 2017-06-14 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[A shrug.]

I didn't want to assume.

What kind of magic do you specialize in?

[ Knoll's eyes flicker down back at the card in front of him and then he finally finds his voice. ]

Dark magic. Though...for better or worse, I cannot access it here.

[ Then, he decides to read the card. ]

"The wizards knew only that this isle held a great mystery--and that patience alone would solve it."

[In response to the card flavor text:]

How mysterious. Not unlike the situation we find ourselves in now -- with the addition of people wanting to harm each other, that is.

[But...more interestingly,] Dark magic? What does that consist of?

[personal profile] rextenebrae 2017-06-16 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
[ He'll nod, and then take another pause. ]

I'd read the dark magic spell off of a tome, and then it'll usually attack my opponent in the form of the shadows themselves. It was rather simple and direct, nothing too difficult or extravagant.

I'd say the other mages had more sophisticated ways of unleashing the magic of different elements.

[personal profile] godly 2017-06-16 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[Light's taking this idle time to fan through his cards, though by no means does this mean he isn't listening.]

And is it a talent you have to work for, or does it come naturally to mages? Basically, can anyone wield magic?
rextenebrae: (27)

[personal profile] rextenebrae 2017-06-16 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, not just anyone. You would need to have an affinity for magic and train or memorize the chants in order to be able to use it.

[ So it's a bit of both. ]
godly: (pic#11408207)

[personal profile] godly 2017-06-16 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Interesting.]

Train? At a school, or something?

[Or is he leaning too much into those fantasy tropes again?]
rextenebrae: (o6)

[personal profile] rextenebrae 2017-06-16 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It depends. There are some learners of the craft do have teachers independent of schools or academies, but most mages do attend those, yes. As you can imagine, it's from quite a young age, since it is typically, but understandably difficult to learn magic from the beginning if one is older.

[ Which probably makes sense in the grand scheme of things. It's just how being human was. ]
