SURVIVORS: 32 The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors. The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel. And speaking of the buildings surrounding the motel, it seems like the Library is now open. How quaint. As a reminder, we are now accepting murder proposals for Week 4! If you're interested in having your character commit a murder this week, be sure to send in your proposal before Tuesday, 9:00 PM EST. A daemon is a human that's been taken over by malevolence. That's all. Every human has the capability to become a daemon.

[Good job speculating? But also.] They likely wouldn't give it to you until the end.

Yeah, but then there's no point in killing for it. I'll escape somehow, and when I do, I'll be a daemon again. It'd only motivate me if I could change things now.

Huh. And what's malevolence?

The evil that lives in everyone's hearts. You've had a selfish thought before, I'm sure. Everyone has. Humans produce malevolence unknowingly, and when it's not kept in check... you get the idea, right?

So malevolence is... kinda like negative feelings? And when you have too much of it you become a daemon. [he takes that in] What does being a daemon do?

[breaksouls]

It depends. Most people lose their entire sense of self. They become mindless monsters and that's what people tend to think of as daemons. Of course, I look like this... There's another daemon I know whose face has been scarred by malevolence, and another who's a lizard man. We're stronger than humans, and you'd have to be an exorcist if you hope to defeat a daemon. Why do you care?

I'm interested in the supernatural and all things "weird". It's kind of my thing. [shrugs] Learning the differences between what's the norm in different dimensions is probably one of the only good things about this place.

What part of "riddles" and "puzzles" sounds like "rainbows" and "butterflies," gramps?

Weird...? Everyone keeps saying stuff like that about my world, but it's simply how things are. I have no idea what your worlds are like, but I know that one has something called a washing machine... Are you from a world like that? Is that why you splashed the water?

Yukina will wander a little bit closer, and wave a hand in front of his face.]

Probably not. [She sighs heavily.] We've created too much work for them to be willing to take on another task, I'm afraid.

[What if his legs are a sign or worse things to come? Yukina doesn't want to see him suffering, and... if it does get worse, he could very well suffer.]

Just... promise you'll at least think about talking to Craftly-san in between the next trial and the start of next week, when things are quieter. Please.

Washing machines are a thing, but no, that is not why I splashed the water. Why are you not over that yet. Maybe I just like splashing water around. For fun.

[it's more believable when he sounds exasperated about it]

[he... completely... did not see that coming, and his first jolt backwards at her hand means the chair unbalances. he attempts to flail his arms to catch himself but no can do, he just crashes to the ground. loudly.

he then just stares up at the ceiling. lying there.]

[at least he noticed her in his fall?]

To my knowledge, only the most powerful of demons are capable of existing outside a vessel with enough strength to seize a human's heart. But of course, because of their great strength, it takes little for the two souls to be inexorably linked. Worse yet, of course, is an instance where a host has acted of their own will...

[she glance aside, thoughtful. literally the plot of fe8. it's barely a moment before she refocuses on Dipper, though.]

The more I learn about this "Mother" figure, the more parallels I see to the battles I have already fought.
