SURVIVORS: 40

The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors.

The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel.

And speaking of the motel, it seems like the Storage room has unlocked itself overnight. How quaint.

This is not how I wanted to find that out. Have I said sorry for shooting you yet? I'm just gonna say it again. In case. [he huffs a bit] Maybe we should take the fake bullets out too? They might not be murder-dangerous but they're at least injury-dangerous. Um. General we, of course, not us specifically. We should both individually stay out of each other's way when it comes to guns. Forever.

[Dipper ... Let It Go. The clinic is in view by now though, at least?]

We're almost there! And now here's hoping people didn't completely steal all of the medicine yet.

It might be worth bringing up. I'm sure there's at least one person here who has experience handling guns. [there's probably at least one person here who could kill someone with a blank, too, but... she won't say that] ...with any luck, there will still be supplies there! I didn't get everything organized just so someone could steal it all.

They stole literally ever single kitchen knife. I have no hope in this place.

Into the clinic they go. Yukina takes a quick look around, then purses her lips. ...there are definitely some things missing, even at first glance.]

Your expectations were more realistic than mine, it seems.

[being in the clinic is just... dipper deadpan staring at it. why is everyone like this.]

Is everyone in this motel a kleptomaniac? Is that what's happening here? We have a serious thieving problem.

I'm a little mad at whoever thought that putting guns there was a good idea.

[But. Not at him. Just deal with it, Dipper, the only blame you're getting is from yourself.]

...I can understand wanting to have some on hand just in case it's needed, but... just the clinic's existence should have been enough. There was no reason to take so much of this.

[hRMMM. he doesn't answer. it makes him feel better but AT WHAT COST]

No one needs a scalpel "just in case". And yet, that's what most people have chosen to take. That's just asking for people to get stabbed to death.

[on that Cheerful(TM) note, dipper starts to rummage through the clinic, grabbing some bandages (in case), ointment and painkillers]

It looks like we've still got enough stuff left to check out your wound, though. Which is hopefully just a bruise and not some kinda festering curse. [this is not helping anyone, dippydoo.]

Scalpels are small, though... surely they couldn't draw that much blood?

[Guess who's not a very creative murderer? THIS GIRL. Which is hilarious, considering her twin would probably have "murder" on his profile card if he was here.]

...I'm sure it's... just a bruise. [Curse bullets can't really be a thing. Right? ...right?? Okay, maybe she's a little freaked out about the idea.]

Blood vessels are really not that far down in the human body in all the important vulnerable spots. Have you never seen a horror movie? All you need to do is nick the throat.

[.... who let this child watch tv unsupervised. Dipper, who doesn't realize Yukina is getting a bit Freaked, just goes on]

Usually if it's a physical curse it should be visible, I think? So we'll see. Um... [wait. w a i t] I can turn around when you lift up your...? Uhhhh. Just tell me if it looks weird????

[the bruise is on the stomach, dipper, chill.]

[wh..y... what kind of TV has this boy been watching...]

...I had hoped... a lot of those things in horror movies were just for dramatic effect.

[sweats nervously.

Yukina's wearing a kimono, though, so the best way to check her stomach isn't going to be to lift up her skirt. SO. She nods slowly, turns away from him, and reaches back to untie her sash so that she can open it at the front to take a better look.]

It's... okay, I think? It looks like it's going to be a regular bruise.

[Not that she's showing him.]

There aren't any weird marks or anything.

Well, obviously a lot is changed for drama, but all of it has a base in real science.

[DOES IT, DIPPER. DOES IT???

anyway dipper is Glad he doesn't have to see a girl naked (screams) and also that yukina isn't dying or anything. he is genuinely relieved. he is definitely hiding his face in his hands just in case.]

Okay! Great. Just put some salve on it and take some painkillers and you'll be good to go. It'll be almost like I never shot you. Why would I say that.

...oh.

[yikes

But Yukina nods, and reaches for a bottle of painkillers (wincing as she does, and hoping he won't see) before screwing the top off and shaking a pill into her hand.]

Thank you for the advice. [She smiles.] ...I'd like to pretend you didn't shoot me. That is, I don't want you to feel guilty about it. I'll recover, so when the bruise goes away... we can both just forget about it, all right?

... I guess I'm okay with forgetting about it. But are you sure you're fine?

[he'd. also like to pretend he didn't shoot her, he's just a worrywart]

I'm sure that I will be.

[While they're sorting that out, she's just going to make sure her clothes are back on and her sash is tied. This is fine.]

Don't worry. It's okay.
