( MINGLE - WEEK 2 )

SURVIVORS: 40

The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors.

The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel.

And speaking of the motel, it seems like the Storage room has unlocked itself overnight. How quaint.

Welcome to Week 2's mingle, everyone! As of this week, we are now accepting murder proposals. If you're interested in having your character murder someone this week, please send in your proposal before Tuesday, 9:00 PM EST. We'll be contacting you on plurk over the week to finalize the details, or ask for rescheduling if necessary.

In a situation like this, I know of naught else but worry.

[ The dark mage's words were but a murmur, mostly to himself, but he didn't press--it was evident that it was simply a result of this place taking its toll on him. Sometimes, it was wise to leave those things be.

Then, he nods at the request. The brew had already been finished in the pan, so all he basically needed to do was pour it out into a cup. His movements are careful and slow, as he always was, like he preferred. Still, it was the first time he'd be giving coffee, instead of taking it. ]

... How sweet would you like it?

I understand. The challenge is to try and focus your thoughts elsewhere. It's difficult, but... it's possible.

[ that's exactly what Akira had been doing when he was caught in a daze in the first place. it's why he acts like a fool, putting on masks of dead people and flirting with just about anyone who may seem willing to deal with his peculiarities. ]

I'll take it as is today, I think. The more bitter it tastes, the more it will keep my grounded. Thank you.

Yes, I suppose you're right.

[ ... This is why he goes to the books that they do have on hand to read, and why he seeks out people from time to time. Solitude would leave him with his thoughts, which he preferred for much later.

He'll nod at the thanks, though. ]

...I'll have mine the same. It probably would serve me well for that similar reason.

[ He pours himself a cup of bitter, half-decent coffee. However, once he takes a sip, he just makes a face that is close to appearing put out. ]

[ oh, you poor, sweet summer child, Knoll. don't take mediocre coffee black unless you're seasoned in the ways of coffee. your tongue is going to want to outright reject it.

Akira makes a face that shows hesitance, as if wanting to tell him to reconsider. it's too late by then, almost as if he's stuck in a trance as he watches him take a sip. Knoll looks to be filled with nothing but regret and he can't help but laugh breathlessly underneath his breath. ]

... You may want to add a few spoonfuls of sugar if anything, Knoll-san.

[ he says this as he sips his own, relishing in the fact that no human in their right mind should be drinking coffee black. Akira wants to suffer, dammit. ]

[ Knoll is a man who prefers his drinks sweet, so naturally this was a recipe for disaster; though many of the other dark mages he had associated with liked things black. He was always the odd one out, it seemed. ]

Perhaps I thought that it might have been not so bad and that I could take it--no matter what kind of taste came from it.

[ He paused before forcing down another gulp out of a small streak of stubbornness compels him to foolishly do so. The next moment, he's hurrying through the kitchen to find himself some sugar. ]

Ugh...how can you simply sit there and drink such a thing without batting an eyelid?

Sugar, milk and cream were all paired with coffee for a reason.

[ if Knoll wants to put coffee on trial, he needs only to continue drinking it as it currently is and he will be given a swift, merciless death. please don't execute Akira's coffee. it's one of the only things he can cling onto at this particular point. ]

I don't particularly enjoy it as much when it's black, but the stronger it is, the better. It's usually much more bearable when it's brewed better as well. That's my fault, haha.

[ ... He pauses and then sheepishly moves over to the sugar, milk, and cream. Finally, he begins to scoop some sugar and put it into coffee. He's still too much used to tea, it seems.

For now, Akira's coffee does not stand the thread of being executed... ]

Hmm...alright. Though, I don't blame you all that much...

[ Even if it is Akira's fault. He takes a sip of the half-decent coffee that's been sweetened and he looks a touch relieved. ]
