( MINGLE - WEEK 2 )

SURVIVORS: 40

The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors.

The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel.

And speaking of the motel, it seems like the Storage room has unlocked itself overnight. How quaint.

Welcome to Week 2's mingle, everyone! As of this week, we are now accepting murder proposals. If you're interested in having your character murder someone this week, please send in your proposal before Tuesday, 9:00 PM EST. We'll be contacting you on plurk over the week to finalize the details, or ask for rescheduling if necessary.

As always, feel free to PM us or send us a PP over plurk if you have any questions!

[That actually kind of makes him laugh a little.] I figure it's a little different? Probably. Though if you told me this is normal in cities I'd have to believe you.

Well in regular cities, we wouldn't be holding our own one-day trials. [She huffs quietly.] This city is a disaster zone though. Wish I knew what happened to it before we got here.

I've been wondering that, too. The fact that there are multiple burnt out buildings has me very curious. One would be suspicious enough but three?

[Her eyebrow raises a little.]

What's exactly suspicious about the burned down buildings? They just look like ruins to me.

I know, isn't that wonderful? [He loves ruins. But okay, right, actual answer.] But yes, well, I had the thought that usually, if there's a fire, it's an isolated incident, meaning one building, or it's an area incident, meaning buildings next to each other due to the spread of the fire. It's the same anywhere. A fire either stays contained or spreads around from the starting point. This is three buildings but all apart from each other. The buildings around them are in different conditions but certainly not burnt. I wondered if maybe... the entire town hadn't caught aflame but they only had time to rebuild some of the buildings? Or perhaps... those buildings were targeted in a very short time span for some reason. Either option, I think, is riveting.

[A beat.] Sorry, I just sort of prattled on there for a spell.

[damn jake.]

No, it's ok. You actually raise a pretty good point. I hadn't considered how odd their condition is in the situation you've described. If they're apart from each other, then they must have been burned in separate incidents. I don't think it makes a lot of sense to just rebuild some of the structures, but not the others around it. [She taps her nails on the table and hums.] So I guess you're thinking something is inside them to find?

[personal profile] potentite 2017-06-02 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
That's my thinking, yes. Perhaps finding out what those buildings were or seeing what's inside might explain a mystery or two around here. At least, it probably couldn't hurt?

[This is real life foreshadowing.]

[please don't join the skeleton army jake.]

I mean, if that's what you want to do. Personally I wouldn't take the risk. Guess that just means you're a braver person than I am.

[personal profile] potentite 2017-06-02 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I'm braver, exactly... I just... don't want to see everyone here murdered off one by one, you know?
perceptions: the fratellis (She's not gone yet)

[personal profile] perceptions 2017-06-02 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
But do you think something in those ruins could prevent that?
potentite: (cause i'd never say no to you)

[personal profile] potentite 2017-06-02 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that town might be part of the puzzle at least! Though, well, all I really know about Lovecraft stories is people often get snuffed out or really wish they had by the end. Did you ever see the movie, um, In The Mouth of Madness? Boy do I hope it's not like that.
perceptions: the fratellis (And still don't mind)

[personal profile] perceptions 2017-06-03 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I've never heard of it. But I don't watch a lot of movies in general. [It's hard for her to follow along the emotional story beats. Unless it's an heavy action film, where she doesn't need to care about any of that, she tends to avoid film.]
