( MINGLE - WEEK 2 )

SURVIVORS: 40 The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors. The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel. And speaking of the motel, it seems like the Storage room has unlocked itself overnight. How quaint. Welcome to Week 2's mingle, everyone! As of this week, we are now accepting murder proposals. [ Oh no, she's still trying to sleep. She doesn't register the change — she was a really... heavy sleeper, after all. Even the comforts of her bed prove useless. She murmurs in response to Velvet: ]

Five... just five minutes...

[ And she will honestly go back to sleep for five minutes!!! ]

[Velvet sighs. But she lets her go back to sleep. As soon as it's been five minutes on the dot, though, she tries again.]

Hey, wake up already. If you don't wake up, I'll kill you in your sleep. How's that sound?

[ At least she wakes up this time. She squirms in the bed, slowly sitting up and rubbing away at her eyes. The words 'kill' definitely catch her attention. ]

Huh? What's going on —

[ Oh, she's in a bed. ]

Did I sleep past curfew?

I found you asleep in the town hall. Thought I'd better move you before anyone got any ideas.

[She pauses for a moment, then looks away.]

Are you getting enough sleep? If not, it might help to have some warm milk before bed, or even some chamomile tea.

It was my first time there since last week... everyone was trying to find something. I was trying to count how many seats were in the town hall auditorium. ...I guess it's like counting sheeps.

[ She sighs, lazily scratching her cheek. ]

I'd be worried about who is sleeping soundly, honestly. But... I'll remember that next time.

[ A pause. ]

Thanks, for.. not murdering me.

[breaksouls]

Wait, were you trying to fall asleep in there? Or were you really just curious about something like that?

[Is she trying to figure out how many people lived here? Velvet can't figure out how counting the seats would be useful...]

It's Velvet, by the way. If you didn't already know, I mean.

Yeah. I just kind of ... I don't know. Trying to keep my mind off of things.

[ :( Let her live. ]

..Chiaki. I heard others talking to you, so it's kind of hard to miss your name. You're making an impression.

[ Good? Bad? Who knows. ]

I'm aware. I usually do, unfortunately. You seem to be the opposite, though.

What's that suppose to mean? [ Her cheeks flare up and she pouts. ] I'd rather not get people looking at me weird... but it's easy when all you want to do is kind of relax?

Are you taking this as some sort of vacation?

[Her cheeks are kinda cute like that... It almost reminds her of how easy it is to tease Eleanor.]

My point was, you haven't really stood out as much as I have, though that kind of goes without saying for most people here. Still, if you fall asleep random places... You might make a name for yourself.

[ She's sounding a bit more firm now. ] I'm trying to be strong and not... show myself as weak. The second I do, be it crying or anger, it makes me a target.

[ She sighs a bit. ]

...Then I'll do my best not to fall asleep. I want to blend in and — ... [ Not die, but she doesn't say that. ]
