( MINGLE - WEEK 2 )

SURVIVORS: 40 The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors. The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel. And speaking of the motel, it seems like the Storage room has unlocked itself overnight. How quaint. Welcome to Week 2's mingle, everyone! As of this week, we are now accepting murder proposals. Smoke and mirrors...it was somewhat of a double meaning due to the fact that our captors seem fond of dark practices and actual mirrors.

[ He then turns to face Dipper, and a curious expression falls over him. ]

...There is an old saying about mirrors, you know. Do you wish to hear it?

Oh. [deflates, a bit] I thought you'd, I dunno, found something with the mirror.

[there is a healthy dose of unsureness on Dipper's face re: the old saying]

Uhhhhhh. Sure? Is it the one about breaking them?

Such a thing would be fortuitous...but...

[ He'll shake his head, looking a bit amused for a moment. ]

No, not that one--but another. I have heard it has been said that mirrors are the windows to other dimensions. Do you believe it could be true?

[pinesfortruth]

... Another dimension... [thinks about it for a second] Sure? We're in one right now, aren't we? Maybe there's a portal to a different one in a mirror. Also, maybe that's why you can trap ghosts in mirrors. I found that super weird. Convenient, but weird.

[rextenebrae]

[ He'll nod, reaching out to touch the mirror. ]

You're quite knowledgeable of supernatural phenomena. Perhaps you would make a good researcher. Have you looked into such things before, while you were residing in your home?

[that gets a smile out of Dipper]

Actually, yeah! I've spent the entire summer back home researching the mysteries of Gravity Falls. It's kind of a weirdness beacon? I even got an offer for a research apprenticeship, but I ... am not taking that. For a variety of reasons.

A magnet for supernatural activity? Interesting...

[ He's heard of places like that, for sure. ]

It sounds like quite the opportunity. Why didn't you take it when you were offered?

I'm twelve? I can't just... drop everything and live out my entire life researching the unknown with my grunkle. [what the fuck is a grunkle. dipper does not explain] Plus Mabel and I wouldn't have been able to stick together. I'm sure I'll do it when I grow up, but... you can't force that kind of thing.

[rextenebrae]

[ Well... that does make sense, he supposes. There is a separate moment in which mentally, he remembers how young some of the children here are when Dipper gives his age. Dear gods. ]

I understand. At the very least, you do have it for when you're ready.

[ ... ]

... I've never heard the term grunkle before. Is that a unique word for a familiar member?

Suuuuuuuure. Maybe. If we get back before the world ends.

[that sounds ominous. dipper takes a moment to look sheepish at the grunkle call out, though]

Oh! Yeah, our great uncle Stan came up with that. I thought it was weird at first too, but it's really grown on me. ... Sort of like Stan himself.

...Alright.

[ Knoll looks slightly perturbed for a moment concerning the other subject, though. Since he hasn't heard anyone say 'before the world ends'. ]

Is there something that threatens the balance of your world? Or did you use 'before the world ends' as a euphemism for the passage of an exorbitant amount of time ... ?

The literal end of the world. Or the universe? We're kind of in the middle of an apocalypse back home that I'm pretty sure only Mabel and I can stop. ...Which sounds like a brag when I say it out loud, but it's more of a "shoot, we should get on that" thing.

I recalled that the man said, 'Not a moment of time has passed in your world since arrival.' to one individual. Therefore, depending on how much you take his word on anything, perhaps that can be a relief to hear, and it could mean if you should return, you needn't worry about being too late to stop this 'apocalypse'.

...Though, I have not heard of any such trouble that would threaten the entire universe...it is a wonder if even that, too, can be put on 'hold', as it were.

[ Really, anything concerning the cosmos sounds a little too much for him, but then again, so many individuals had been brought here from a myriad of worlds... ]

I don't think that's the kind of thing Craftly would bother lying about, so, thanks. That helps a lot. [also will fashion his argument with Mabel that they cant be thirteen if time isn't passing for real, but. the important thing here is he smiled a bit.] Well, it's just the end of the universe for my dimension. ...I think. Hopefully. I wouldn't be surprised if whatever's in charge here is a friend of the guy causing Weirdmageddon, is the thing.

It's no problem at all.

[ At the very least, it should make their time in dimensional hell less ... hellish to know that their obligations back home are essentially on hold. ]

... Weridmageddon? That is a strange term for the apocalypse...and do you know why this person is attempting to cause the end of the universe?

It's also been called Oddpocalypse. [that. explains nothing, but then Dipper gestures vaguely as he explains:] Reality as we know it was unraveled by a demon named Bill after he escaped from his own dimension into ours. It was pretty messed up. Everyone from his plane of existence is some kind of nightmare horror creature, which is why it would make total sense for whoever's in charge here to be one of his buddies.

[ It seems like this is another case to be filed away into the question of "Why is it always demons™"? Though, now he does understand better why Dipper believes Bill to be in cahoots with their mystery head kidnapper. ]

... I can only imagine how unfortunate it was to look upon a demon like him, considering how disturbing his dimension presumably was.

Weeeeell... he can look freaky, but most of the time he's just a triangle. [he makes a triangle symbol with his hand over his eye, for some reason] It's like a lesson in appearances being deceiving?
