( MINGLE - WEEK 2 )

SURVIVORS: 40 The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors. The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel. And speaking of the motel, it seems like the Storage room has unlocked itself overnight. How quaint. Welcome to Week 2's mingle, everyone! As of this week, we are now accepting murder proposals. I'll be... fine.

[What sort of regrets does a man like Light Yagami harbor? Does he even have enough empathy to regret anything, other than failure? Perhaps it's strictly the result of the last trial that will plague him for the days to come.

But this is the second time the subject of Kaitou being a magician has been brought up, and Light decides this is what he wants to follow through on instead.]

Since you're a magician, can you show me a trick to distract me? Or are you tired of getting that question, since I'm sure you hear it a lot?

[nowyouseeit]

"Fine," huh.

[but he doesn't chase the thought, instead deciding to go along with the change in focus. he's not the kind of performer who ever passes up an opportunity to show off, after all]

I don't think I'd be very good at my job if I got tired of people asking for demonstrations.

[he says, mouth quirking into a grin. a flick of his wrist, and he's holding a deck of cards. the only prop he has with which to perform his effects, but hey. it's all he needs]

[Fine, in a sense. A little less than fine, but failure just doesn't sit well with Light Yagami like, ever. And I guess the execution was a little rough too. Maybe.

But... he blinks, and a small moment passes before he shifts in his seat to face him more properly. Light's quirking a brow, still looking worn, but curiosity flickers in him now.]

Card tricks. Are you going to ask me to pick one?

[nowyouseeit]

I am. Unless that's a little too cliche for you?

[arches an eyebrow, offering Light the fanned out deck]

[godly]

No. It's still novel.

[Light raises a hand to pluck one of the cards from the fan with two fingers. It'll end up being the Jack of Spades.]

All right. Chosen.

[nowyouseeit]

Good.

[withdraws, shuffles the deck some, and then holds it out again. he cuts the deck in half, indicating Light should replace his card into the center]

Put it back. And watch carefully, to make sure I don't pull anything funny on you.

[godly]

Will do.

[-he says, doing as instructed and placing the card where indicated. He'll watch carefully, his expression almost idle. He'll keep his commentary to himself for now, until the trick is completed.]

[nowyouseeit]

[he'll notice the card seems to be shuffled seamlessly into the deck! and once Kaito is finished doing that. . . he hands the cards to light]

And just to be absolutely sure, shuffle it yourself. Cut it a few times, too. Make sure it's good and buried in there.

[godly]

[Light takes the cards as instructed, and rather deftly begins to shuffle them. It's easy enough, given that he's seated and can utilize the flat surface of the table in front of him.]

Okay.

[And he cuts it a few times, too, as requested. He hands the cards back to Kaito expectantly.]

Continue.

[nowyouseeit]

[taps his knuckles against the deck when he takes it back, letting out a thoughtful hum as he does so]

[and then. . .]

Jack of Spades, right? Check your pocket. I think it decided it liked you enough to stick around. ♥

[AND, INDEED, should he check his pockets, Light will find the Jack of Spades tucked neatly into one!]

[He's frowning, because certainly he would have felt something-

Give him a moment while he shifts in his seat, digs into his pocket, and... Yeah, that's a card he's pulling out, all right. The Jack of Spades.

He turns it around in his fingers for a moment, brow furrowing a little in surprise.]

It's... slight of hand, right?

[nowyouseeit]

[bows his head with a grin]

'Course it is. No spells at all. Just nimble hands and quick fingers.

[that sounds like innuendo, Kaito]

[godly]

Not to mention distraction with whatever flourish you decide to use with those cards.

[He hands the card back at him, mildly impressed. Some small part of his pride twinges at it, though, as he's naturally disinclined to feeling tricked, even if he had asked for it.]

You're pretty good. Usually I'm observant enough to catch someone trying to pull the wool over my eyes. Do you draw big audiences at home?

[nowyouseeit]

Big enough.

[heh. also totally not elaborating on what kind of audiences he draws, because usually it's a mixture of fans and police officers trying to arrest him]

I'm still a high school student, so I don't perform much. But I seem to have charmed my entire class, at the very least. ♥
