( MINGLE - WEEK 2 )

SURVIVORS: 40

The sun is shining, the air conditioner units hum as they always do, and a gentle morning breeze blows against the windows. The scent of pine cones and evergreen follow you wherever you go in the motel, save for the parking lot and outdoor pool. It seems like someone was very generous with the detergent while moping the floors.

The two grandfather clocks (one on each floor) will ring with each passing hour, indicating the time of day without fail. With this knowledge — they'll note the motel will continue to be surrounded by fog until 8:00 AM on the dot. It is at that hour that the fog will begin to recede. Not enough to reveal the whole city, but enough to allow residents to explore some of the buildings surrounding the motel.

And speaking of the motel, it seems like the Storage room has unlocked itself overnight. How quaint.

Welcome to Week 2's mingle, everyone! As of this week, we are now accepting murder proposals. If you're interested in having your character murder someone this week, please send in your proposal before Tuesday, 9:00 PM EST. We'll be contacting you on plurk over the week to finalize the details, or ask for rescheduling if necessary.

As always, feel free to PM us or send us a PP over plurk if you have any questions!

...oh, Knoll-san...

[It is dangerous. She knows that, which is ultimately why she hasn't just charged right down the path, danger be damned, but... if she gives up here, is it going to be just another failure to be reminded of?

Well, maybe it won't be a problem after tomorrow - but she doesn't want to hope for that, either.]

I'm not sure there will... ever be a time when it won't be dangerous.

[personal profile] rextenebrae 2017-05-29 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
... Yes, well -- I believe we both know that.

[ Knoll shifts his gaze from her, to the lake, and then back at her. He doesn't bother hiding the bit of concern that seeps into his words when he speaks next. ]

Why were you considering heading to the lake?

I...

[She takes a breath. Her thoughts are disorderly, and it's hard to focus with all the constant reminders of how she's messed up in the past. But as much as it makes her a bit downtrodden, it also motivates her to try and do better this time.]

...I'm not really sure. But I thought, maybe...

[The execution happened there last week. If it's to happen there again this week... she's not sure what she could possibly do, even if she did manage to get there.]

...if I could get there early... maybe we could... do something if the wrong person is there, this week.

[ Knoll takes a pause himself-- and then he'll shake his head. ]

Even if we did somehow arrive there early, that man, those servants, and the forces that drive this place would put a stop to whatever attempt we would give to stop another horrifying execution of someone innocent. They could even outright just...

[ ...he won't finish that. ]

Perhaps if they hadn't so much control and power, it would be not much of an issue.

[He's right, and she knows that. If she were thinking clearly - if she could block out the whispers from the back of her mind - it wouldn't bother her nearly as much. But she's powerless to stop this.

She's always been powerless to stop terrible things from happening.]

I know. We're just... pawns, to them. Even if we did do something, it wouldn't... we couldn't...

[She takes a deep, shuddering breath and puts her hands over her ears, briefly.]

...we have to try, but... it's most likely that we'll fail. I thought I was hearing someone else's voice this whole week, saying that, but maybe... maybe those were just my own thoughts all along.

We have to try something, yes. I don't think we'd be able to make it to the lake as we are right now--and I'm a little concerned with trying anything today even if it's not that late yet.

[ Knoll's eyebrows furrow; he wished he could do something. But, here, he was powerless, and the thoughts running through his head--they're nothing new, he tells himself. Just louder, more insistent.

Even so, he wants to help. Even if he should've been-- ]

... I believe your conclusion may make sense, given what had been written on that letter. And ... are you a fan of reading, Yukina?

...the timing is especially risky.

[Note to self, try to go for a picnic at the lake on Monday next week instead of waiting until Thursday.]

But... reading?

[Is he trying to change the subject? She thinks he might be, but her thoughts are also disorderly right now, so maybe... she's just not following.]

...I... yes, I am. Why do you ask...?
rextenebrae: (29)

[personal profile] rextenebrae 2017-05-30 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The dark mage nods--when she mentions the timing being risky. It is a Thursday after all...

Knoll takes pause to gather his thoughts. He should've--back in Grado, he should've--and then he smiles. It's a little strained, but... ]

... It's troublesome hearing those whispers.

[ The male reaches into his robes and takes out a book. It's a fantasy, medieval story called Knight and and Stead: a Tale of Wartime Friendship. ]

If you're focusing on something else, it can help. You can borrow this for the night.

thawedheart: (i worry because you're dumb)

[personal profile] thawedheart 2017-05-30 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Very troublesome...

[She's in total agreement there. But, when he procures the book from inside his robes, she looks up at him with wide eyes, startled.]

Are— are you sure? If you were reading it, to distract yourself...

[But she's already started to reach for it - she catches herself, and draws her hands back.]

I don't want to inconvenience you.
rextenebrae: (39)

[personal profile] rextenebrae 2017-05-30 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Knoll shakes his head, smile still in place. They're both suffering, he knows it. And, all this time he wondered what would have happened... if he had reached out to Prince Lyon more, if he didn't give in to those demands filled with despair. If he had just tried to help better...

Just like he was trying to do now. ]

Please..take it for now. As long as you return it after tonight, it won't really be an inconvenience.

[ He holds the book out to her. ]
thawedheart: (no hiruiseki here kthnx)

[personal profile] thawedheart 2017-05-31 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Yukina looks from the book up to his face, and when she meets his eyes, she smiles.

The smile is a little sad, and she looks almost like she might cry... but she's happy. She reaches out for the book and takes it, wrapping her arms around it and holding it to her chest. She nods once.]

Thank you so much. I'll give it back to you tomorrow morning.
rextenebrae: (45)

[personal profile] rextenebrae 2017-05-31 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Knoll will nod; he looks a bit relieved that she accepted it. He's a little worried for a moment that she might cry. But, he can tell from the look of happiness in her eyes...and the way she's holding the book that she's truly happy, and that makes him feel like he's made a good choice. ]

It's no problem... I'm happy to be of assistance, and I do hope that you're able to enjoy the book as well.
thawedheart: (i won't be able to use this after week 2)

[personal profile] thawedheart 2017-06-01 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure that I will.

[It looks... interesting? It's a book about friendship, so it's bound to be nice. (She hopes.)]

Maybe sometime, once I've read it... we can talk about it together, and we can find other books to read together, too.
rextenebrae: (o6)

[personal profile] rextenebrae 2017-06-02 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ Inb4 it's about a tragic friendship. ]

I think I would like that. I cannot remember the last time I had discussed with someone about the story from a book. I suppose... there is also the fact that I took having books to read at my leisure for granted, before we were brought here.
thawedheart: (this is... fine.......)

[personal profile] thawedheart 2017-06-02 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[WELP.]

I did, too... [She sighs... then brightens up a little.] Oh! I'll ask Craftly-san for some books. Maybe we can look at them together.

[...next week, after the trial. Because chances are, someone's going to show up dead within the next 24 hours. There's no escaping that.]
rextenebrae: (19)

[personal profile] rextenebrae 2017-06-02 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ... Something to look forward to! ]

Yes, we could.

[ Though, speaking of which... ]

.... Perhaps, I should also warn you that when requesting for books that he or those servants may decide to place something in there extra that he believes to be amusing, when it isn't.
