At exactly 11:30 am, all residents who are still asleep will be jolted awake by a sharp, burning pain that spreads across their whole body. A simple look will reveal no visible injuries, oddly enough, and the pain will fade away as soon as they're properly awake. Those early birds who are already up and about will feel nothing — except maybe a strange, mysterious sense of relief as they go on about their business. Lucky them.

Moments later, an announcement will come through the static-filled PA system:

"This is Craftly speaking. My apologies for the rude awakening [not really], but your presence is required in the Dining Hall. Our first trial is about to begin. Please do try to be there before noon. My staff members have simply too many duties to tend to, to be escorting each and every one of you out of your quarters. Good day."

And true to his words, anyone who doesn't make their way to the Dining Hall before noon will be dragged kicking and screaming regardless of where they've sequestered themselves. Sucks to be you, huh? Upon arriving there, however, residents will be given the menu, one copy of the rulebook, one pencil, one notepad, and a cheque folder. Lunch and dinner will be served at the appropriate times, and appetizers, desserts and beverages (of the non-alcoholic variety) will be available throughout the trial. All you have to do is ask one of the faceless men, and your food will be delivered to you in ten minutes or less depending on what it is.

The Dining Room itself looks about the same as it does any other day — save for the fact that the lights have been dimmed. Why this, you ask? Because the projector is now in use. Transparencies containing each resident's profile will be displayed on the pull-down screen, with one of the staff members rotating through the images every minute. The profiles of the deceased are included, and if current discussion deems it necessary to focus on one particular resident, anyone is free to ask the faceless man to pause on the appropriate profile for a while.

A small area has been sectioned off with a transparent, plastic curtain right next to the pull-down screen. Its use will become rapidly apparent once the victim's corpse has been wheeled in. Anyone who wishes to step into this area will be asked to wash their hands in the kitchen, and they will be given a pair of latex-free gloves and a hairnet by a staff member who is stationed nearby. Residents are required to dispose of both items before returning to the dinner table; a trash bin is available outside of the curtains for this purpose.

Evidence found during the investigation, on the other hand, will be displayed in the back of the room. Two, long tables have been taken out of storage for this occasion, and any items found by the residents on Friday will be displayed here for further examination.

Finally — a clock above the pull-down screen displays the current hour. Please do remember you have until 9:00 PM to figure out whodunit and cast your vote.

Welcome to our first trial! Characters will be given nine (9) hours to discuss everything related to the investigation to hopefully solve the mystery behind this week's murder. No one will be allowed to leave the Dining Hall without explicit permission from the Innkeeper (and only then to take a tinkle), and all characters must cast their vote before 9PM EST. he did not see the punch coming. lol get it.

the fist connects with his cheekbone and he's immediately left flinching, head tilting in the direction Dirk's hand had moved. his glasses have the misfortune of falling to the ground, the lens on the left side cracking in the process. in the midst of his face throbbing, he reaches down to calmly pick the pair up, folding them into his hand for security. ]

That was justified. I think.

I think so too. [Or he wouldn't have done it.] Don't do that shit, man. Like... knock and ask, or somethin'.

We don't need any of this extra crap between ourselves.

[ Akira keeps a straight face all while the aching in his cheek begs for him to close his eye or to rub it for relief. chin up and face the music or some shit. ]

There was no one in the room to ask. I thought it would make sense to check the room for the person who was just killed. [ he still nods irregardless. ] You're right, though. I'm assuming you're close with one of them, so I apologize.

I'll be happy to help them clean once... this... is over and done with.

Dave is my brother. [He doesn't exactly expect not to get yelled at for saying that. He knows Dave doesn't agree. But it matters a lot to him.] Take it up with them, whatever they want to do.

[ well, like, dave kind of witnessed most of that in stunned silence since he wasn't paying attention until the punch? which...he is not arguing against because he's still pretty unhappy about the room thing, regardless of the reasons.

We'll deal on our own. [ kaito might be chill with it but dave would prefer to clean up on his own, and will do double the work if kaito even minds.

he doesn't yell at dirk for the time being but just kind of regards him with the small frown that indicates he has no idea what the hell to think about whatever just occurred, but he's processing. ]

[SORRY DAVE. Dirk has... conspicuously placed himself between Dave and Akira so.]

[ well he probably gets to miss the completely baffled expression that indicates this is the first time anyone has bothered to put themselves between dave and someone else, so like.

[ oh. now that they're both here, he can see the familial similarities. it makes more sense as to why he was almost laid out, at least. ]

That's fine. We have more pressing matters to attend to anyway. For what it's worth, I'll apologize to you personally.

[ yes the striders sure do look alike even if dave's two years younger and wearing. different shades. it is pretty impossible for dave to go "no we're COMPLETELY UNRELATED" even though he sure has tried. ]

...No big deal. [ because he is mostly unwilling to admit it is, or for what reasons, but dave shrugs, crossing his arms. ] Just stay out of our room and I don't have an issue.

[ well that uh. sucks.

hajime's not going to involve herself in the scolding since quer seems to have that on lock but she does wander over with her other sleeve missing. she's torn it off, it looks like, to make a makeshift ice pack with ice from a drink. ]

... You didn't need to ruin your clothes, Ichinose-san...

[ it's still a nice thought and gesture non-the-less. Akira wouldn't be so rude as to decline her offering, especially after already ripping the damn sleeve off. jeez, girl, at least rip his off or something. ]

I'm okay. I've dealt with worse, don't worry. Thank you.

[ wow, lewd. hajime's used to destroying her clothing for things like this, though, and it seems necessary. better her clothes than a napkin, apparently - maybe she'll fold more origami with those. ]

Eh, I already gave my other sleeve away, though! You need it.

[ hajime makes sure that there's pressure applied to his cheekbone, though. ] Be careful, 'kay? I'd be hella sad if you up and died 'cus of behavior, yanno...?

Why're you giving your sleeves away― nevermind.

[ Akira laughs at the peculiarity. he's talked to Hajime enough to realize that it fits her personality to a tee. hopefully she doesn't tear off any other parts of her clothes, because wow that sure would be awkward. ]

I'm used to my behavior getting me into trouble. I'll take this over being arrested.

[ it's definitely just hajime being hajime; she's always willing to help and cheer up. ]

Arrested? Wow. That's pretty bad. You're like... a masked hero, right? Doing all the things that everyone else can't do sometimes.

There's a long story behind that. One not meant to be told in the middle of a dining room. I'll tell you later if you really care.
