( INVESTIGATION - WEEK 1 )

Promptly at 8:00 AM, both of the Grandfather clocks will begin to ring, the sound traveling to every corner of the motel. All residents will wake up as if it was any other morning. There's the usual hum from the air conditioner units and the sound of harsh wind blowing against the windows. While the sun may not have ever set, the amount of times the Grandfather clock rings makes it clear: it's time to get up and greet the brand new day. However... something seems off. Maybe it's a shiver of cold leaving a trail of frost on your skin or a burning sensation in your chest — but it feels like something is drawing you out of your room and into the outdoor hallways. Where will you go? Welcome to the investigation log! Please put the name of the location your character will be exploring in the subject header. If you plan on grouping up with someone else for a location, we ask that you keep it to 2-3 characters maximum. [Unfortunately for the occupants of Room 111, they might have a teeny bit of trouble getting out into the outdoor hallways in the first place. Namely, because it seems like someone invited themselves into their room overnight. Laying face down on the ground, they don't seem to be stirring.

Maybe they should turn on the lights to take a closer look?]

[this is fine, everyone loves waking up to a motionless figure laying on their floor??]

I'm going to go out on a limb and say they're probably not napping.

but yes turning on the lights is probably a good... plan... so let's do that!!]

[ Sorry, Hana was completely face first into her pillow until the grandfather clocks started blasting. She's grumbling five more minutes before she covers her own head in the pillows. But, the sudden addition of people talking makes her stir awake, sitting up and groggily looking to her roomies. ]

Hey, what's going —

[ Aaaand, what the fuck? Her back hits the headboard and she immediately frickin' hollers. ]

OMG! T-They're not —

[ Horrified scream here. She's very cautiously keeping eyes on her roomies too, btw. ]

[Once the lights are on, it'll become easier to distinguish who the person laying on the ground is. Face down on the ground, the now obvious teenager doesn't seem to be breathing.

Jason Todd is dead.]

[oh hey it's the kid who— oh.

nudges him with his foot like a helper?? please wake up??]

Well, this is certainly an unfortunate turn of events.

[ his fingers hover over the boy's pulse. his arms lay against the ground, lifeless. what kind of sick joke -- ]

I'm going to turn him over.

[ percival places a hand underneath his torso -- he is pushed upwards, and is promptly flipped over so his face is visible. ]

[ Going to casually wipe away the tears of concern as she definitely crawls down towards the foot of her bed. ]

Careful! Don't be rough... [ D.VA HE'S DEAD, she recognizes him as soon as he's flipped. ] T-That's the boy that yelled at me for being assertive..!

[No pulse, obviously. But Percival will note he's still warm to the touch. Without any specialized medical or forensic training, however, it's impossible to tell how long he's been dead based on body warmth.

Upon flipping him over, the thin imprints wrapped around his neck will become more noticeable. His eyes are closed, at least. No expression of vague horror on this corpse's face. Thank god.]

[he moves slightly towards where percival is examining the body - do the thin imprints look like they were caused by somebody's hands, or is the shape different?]

Finally starting to understand that this isn't a joke? [ of course, he has to be catty for a good moment. percival's fingers graze against his neck...there's a fleeting warmth, but it creates more questions than it does answers. ]

It had to have been strangulation -- but with what? I can't decipher what these prints are. We need to do a sweep of the room, now. If we have to, we can disrobe him as well. [ he stands up, approaching the bathroom. ]

[ There isn't an "LOL" or "LMAO" said past her lips. She's seen death before — mainly during training during the colossal omnic invasion but this... this was different. ]

Uh. A sweep for what? [ Defensively: ] You don't think the murder weapon is here or one of us did it, right?

[ She doesn't comment further, instead turning over to crawl back on her bed, looking at her nightstand and opening the dressers for anything that might be hidden?

It's like she's scared to step on the floor of hot lava dead body okay? ]

[The imprints are far too thin to belong to anyone's hands. The shape is more like a thin line, looping around his neck and nicking his skin just the littlest bit. There's a tinge of dried blood there, but not more than what you could get out of a scratch.

There's nothing out of place in the bathroom, nightstands or dressers. They should look somewhere else in the room, perhaps?]

I'm going to let you handle the disrobing if you're that eager.

[But okay, time to look in the closet.]

[added a few moments after that news is delivered:]

[ oh. well. the poker face doesn't break but dave's shoulders slump a little and he glances up and over at kaito.

Dirk's been a protective guarddog but now he feels a little guilty about his relief. Like, not that much, but still a little. His shoulders draw in and he looks away.]

[ dave doesn't react as visibly as kaito, beyond the glance sideways and the shoulders slumping. after a second he breathes out, slow, and seems to gather himself. ]

Come on. We don't need two people with broken fingers.

[ dave reaches out to give kaito's fist a cursory examination, before: ]

We should go...look for evidence or somethin'. Make ourselves useful. Tomorrow we have a shot to catch whoever did it, yeah? Also we need to figure out some sort of barricade because those fuckers totally just stole our doorknob.
