( INVESTIGATION - WEEK 1 )

Promptly at 8:00 AM, both of the Grandfather clocks will begin to ring, the sound traveling to every corner of the motel. All residents will wake up as if it was any other morning. There's the usual hum from the air conditioner units and the sound of harsh wind blowing against the windows. While the sun may not have ever set, the amount of times the Grandfather clock rings makes it clear: it's time to get up and greet the brand new day. However... something seems off. Maybe it's a shiver of cold leaving a trail of frost on your skin or a burning sensation in your chest — but it feels like something is drawing you out of your room and into the outdoor hallways. Where will you go? Welcome to the investigation log! Please put the name of the location your character will be exploring in the subject header. If you plan on grouping up with someone else for a location, we ask that you keep it to 2-3 characters maximum. [Oh. Well that fucking sucks.

Dirk's been a protective guarddog but now he feels a little guilty about his relief. Like, not that much, but still a little. His shoulders draw in and he looks away.]

[ dave doesn't react as visibly as kaito, beyond the glance sideways and the shoulders slumping. after a second he breathes out, slow, and seems to gather himself. ]

Come on. We don't need two people with broken fingers.

[ dave reaches out to give kaito's fist a cursory examination, before: ]

We should go...look for evidence or somethin'. Make ourselves useful. Tomorrow we have a shot to catch whoever did it, yeah? Also we need to figure out some sort of barricade because those fuckers totally just stole our doorknob.

[it's red. it'll definitely bruise, but nothing is broken. he isn't that strong]

Yeah.

[deep exhale, gaze flickering to Dirk]

You think a barricade is gonna work after we know someone tried to break in this morning?

[splinten]

No. [His arms are folded and his unasked for opinion is offered.] If you were in a dead enough sleep you didn't wake up at noise, then a barricade is no help against someone strong enough to push back it. You won't hear them move it and you'll be done for. You need rooms with locked doors.

[parodeity]

Yeah, 'cause a locked door helped Jason so much.

[ doubt @ both of you. but to kaito: ]

If you wanna get us in with another room, I'm fine. I'd prefer to stick with you, but I can probably find lodgin' elsewhere if we can't get people to take us both. I know some people who might be willing and who it wouldn't press to the room limit, but like. Whoever works.

[a nod at Dave; despite his outburst, he's calmed himself now]

Don't worry. I wanna stick with you, too. If I can't find someone to take us both in, then we'll try our luck with the barricade.

[pauses, then reaches out to clasp a hand on Dave's shoulder]

We'll figure out who's behind this.

[splinten]

Dave, we need to talk. I'll keep the same promise as always.

[The agreed upon meeting that Dave has been skipping lately. But it's important and he hopes Dave will come this time.

To Kaitou:]

If anything happens to him because of you, I'll volunteer to be your executioner.

[if neither of them stops him he'll leave on that asshole note]

[ dave's expression: see icon. it takes a minute for his poker face to break but like. he did not expect the death threat to kaito, apparently. he does not try to stop dirk unless kaito does??? ]

[JESUS CHRIST WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT???]

[but Kaito doesn't stop Dirk either, although he does stand here and stare holes in his back as he leaves]

Sorry about... [ dirk? dave making dirk act like that??? his everything??? ] ...yeah. Anyway, let's, uh, get a move on.

[he shakes his head]

No. S'okay. I understand his sentiment.
